UPDATED: NOV 21, 2014 Bottle: Dense, deep amber color with a thick, beige head that leaves excellent lacing. Strong "Stone" hope profile, complete with pungent-ass pines and fully loaded, resinous hop oils. Bittersweet citrus rinds and moderately sweet orange peels. Hefty bouts of toasted bread and sweet caramel from a generous malt bill mesh with the dry, woody, and boozy oak of the brew. Hoppage is more subtle and smooth than the original Arrogant Bastard. Malt and hops are 50/50 here with an additional woody-oak presence. Thick body but not too sticky. Toffee, caramel, pines, resin, and dry oak finish. Both bitter and sweet. Good beer... I don’t think I love it, though.

650ml bottle pours amber in color with a 2 finger cream colored head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine with caramel, herbal and woody notes. Taste is a pine and herbal hop bitterness with a caramel malty sweetness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a nicely crafted brew, which is a definite improvement over the original. More mellow and smoother.

It's Arrogant Bastard with the edge taken off a bit. The oak is subtle but had an Arrogant Bastard before so could taste it but wonder if came first. I wish more oak on the aroma and palate though. I think I like it more than the original though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber poured a clear deep brown hue w/ a huge creamy beige head and sticky lacing. Mild malty aroma. Initial flavor is light sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish. Tastes are fresh oak, peppery rye, piney hops, and caramel malts. Medium bodied and creamy mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from the bomber into a shaker. Dark mahogany/copper color with a foamy tan head. Aroma is quite mild - there’s some sweet malty notes with a hint of vanilla and roast and just some general earthiness. Flavor has some bready malts but they are masked by the hop bitterness. Not really getting any of the typical vanilla notes from the oak. Somehow the softness that usually comes with oak aging doesn’t exist with this beer; instead the oak seems to accentuate the pineyness of the hops and give the beer a little more bite. Medium bodied with a long finish and mild astringency. If I were blind taste testing this I’d swear it was a different recipe with higher IBU’s but regardless it is superior to the traditional brew.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass very cloudy mahogany in color with a nice head, leaving a solid lacing on the glass, slight smell of bourbon, tasted kind roasted nuts and caramel with a slight bourbon burn at the end of the sip

Backlog from old tastenotes: Aroma is malty and hoppy, and there are hints of wet wood. Taste is malty with a hoppy-ish and vanilla-wood sensation. Warming finish with some pine and dark fruit.

Bottle at Haket. A very muddy look, dark and with granules of oak(?). Aroma of strong, malty ale and whisky, at least a hint of oak. Taste is complex and rich. A surprisingly good ale!

Bottle: BB is partially obscured but is last year. Nose is vanilla, oak, slight bourbon quality, sweet cherry, cream, very sweet cola, extremely appealing. Taste is malty, smoked, oak, bitter resinous hops, slight licorice hint of vanilla, leading to a woody, almost salty, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is slick. A nice beer, but not as outstanding as the nose implied.

Old rating. The oak chips help balance out the giant malt and hoppiness of the bastard. Still nice dark fruit and sweetness. Strong stuff, not mind blowing but good.
