The oak flavor comes through, but is not overbearing. A good variation of an already great beer. xs2500 (101), Mississippi, USA

Pours with a nice creamy head and a beautiful reddish color. jason1625 (4), USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2009 A very good ale. Nice blance of oak and hops. A great ber for special occasions. Price puts it on that "I can find something that tastes almost as good for 1/2 the price" list. Almost like one of those air-car fresheners, but in beer form...and it’s good! Damn good. Hoppy, somewhat sweet, very smooth and drinkable. Amazingly mild despite all the hop notes in the nose. Very impressive. Braudog (3789), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2007 Small bottle -- Poured with a rich, shiny reddish brown color and a big head of fomay bubbles. The aroma is thick and strong -- what else would you expect. The beer drinks with the thickness of motor oil, slimy and slicky, with a strong vanilla essence. I’m no chemist and barely a brewer, but am amazed at how the Bastard "mellows" in this scenario. Oh, to be sure, it’s a monster brew. But the aggressive bite of the regular Bastard isn’t present, instead traded for the thick and rich syrup of this version. Quite delicious. Excellent aroma of hops and spiced fruit and a heavy whiskey presence. Alot of malt flava. A slightly thicker syrupy texture. I loved it.
