Woody, leafy aroma is very hop forward with a strong supporting malt base. Hazy burnished copper coloured body with a decent, large bubbled, tan head that recedes to cover with nice lacing. Oak and vanilla tones to the strong, leafy hop flavour with light caramel malt undertones and assertive bitterness. Medium body is very dry with lively carbonation. Sampled at the Kennett Square Brewfest 2005.

Aroma is quite hoppy, dark amber, pours a good sized off-white head. Flavour is of the west coast hops, didnít really notice much oak, full bodied, pleasant mouthfeel, bitter too. Avery good beer. The bottle it came in was hugely impressive, perhaps more so than the beer?

Bottle: Jeroboam. Pours dark with a thick head. A little bit of hops in the aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty. Smooth drinking. A little agressive for my tastes.

Draught @ Brouwerís Cafe: Dark copper, moderate light beige head, foamy, fairly nice lacing, moderate carbonation.   Woody nose, however subtle, slightly plasticy.   Hearty hop bite on first sip, lingers long, oaken flavor is noticable but seems somewhat artificial.   Very slight vanilla on the exit.   I think this would have been much better had it been in a bourbon barrel.   Fairly nice body, mouthfeel is moderate.   Lingering warmth from this one, seems stronger than 7.2%.   I still prefer the regular moreso than this one.   I wonder if the bottle is any different.

12 oz bottle. Copper with a beige head. Big citrus nose. Citrus rind flavors, oak shows up huge in the flavor, mild vanilla. This is pretty rough - might be too fresh. The flavors have almost no integration. Still a good beer, but should get much better with age.

Beaver (1327) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 20, 2006
12 oz bottle. Pours a deep murky red with a frothy light tan head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is caramel, fruits and raw hops with some woody vanilla.

The flavor is sweet caramel and melon with a strong harsh grassy (almost medicinal) bitter finish that lingers into the aftertaste. The bitterness mellows as it warms and becomes more vanilla oak. The mouthfeel is medium and kind of watery.

Overall, more one-sided and harsher bitterness than I remember the regular Arrogant Bastard.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2009 Intensely caramelly kicked with citrus orange tannic floral qualities in the aroma. Very bold. Somewhat centered around aged spice, but enticing. Clear ruddied mahogany with orange fringes, with a creamy soap of deep banana. Peculiar clash of oak board notes and the dose of biting hops, drawing on an unrecognizable character, with a mouth full of fruity esters bringing an end to the clash, before fading into a run of long resin and pine draws. Alcohols ebbs warm, but is essential for the interplay between oak and hop. Points for intriguing qualities, but itís really not for me, I have issues with oaking hops. Thereís a blooming cheese rind finish that seals my skepticism in the beer.

Appears a near transparent auburn toned amber with a fluffy, ivory head that slowly fades into a desne, soapy cap. Tons of hearty, scattered lace sticks around the glass. Smell is of caramel, flowers, mild grapefruit, pineapple, light vanilla, earthy spiciness, and gentle oak tannins that may have been missed had I not known oak chips were added to the mix. Aromas were lighter than anticipated. Taste is spicy, sweet caramel, overly bitter of grapefruit along with gentle woody tannin flavor. Mouthfeel is astringent, bitter, medium bodied, sweet, with the balance being out of wack and very little evidence of the American Oak. Drinkability...Iím not believing the hype with this one. This may be one of the most over-rated beers Iíve seen on this site IMHO. Iím just not feeling it..."Iím not worthy."

Poured from a 12oz bottle a dark copper with a beige head. Aroma on this one was sweet caramel, malt, a bit of fruitness, and an alcohol aroma. Flavor was caramel malts a bit of floral hops and a alcohol warming all the way down.

Bottle, thanks to HogTownHarry. Pours dark amber with a tall creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet oaky vanilla, caramel, and the usual Stone hops. While the hops in the flavor are not lacking, they just seem boring.
