3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Copper pour with a tan, foamy head. Lots of vanilla in the nose, with a little bit of maltiness underneath. Very smooth and soft compared to the regular Arrogant. Almost creamy texture. Hops emerge on the finish. Decent, but way overpriced/overpackaged.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Hollingshead Deli. Ruddy brown brew raising only a slight head. Nose kind of stunk of mustiness. Was a little surprised as I thought this was gonna be a massive brew but it wasnt. The oak was there but compared to some of the barrel aged monsters out there it was tame. Glad I didnt shell out for one of those 3 liters.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is a very unusual beer. Certainly the first hoppy oak aged Iíve had. Oak is not too strong because of just the oak chips, though. Aroma is earthy, musky grapefruit hops... not really too my liking. Couldíve done with more of the typical vanilla, a subtle flavor which I think is knocked out by the muskiness. Either that or the combination of oak and hops just doesnít go well together... kind of like toothpaste and orange juice. Flavor is lemony, slightly bitter, and sawdust. Kind of dry, odd, and rubbery, not offensive but not great. I was hoping for a lot more from this. Guess Iíll continue getting my oak fix elsewhere.

300. Onward and upward. The Oaked Arrogant Bastard pours a medium amber color with a frothy, light-brown head. Mostly lasting, sticky head with good lacing. Aroma is much less pronounced than the original AB, with notes of pine needles and a musty scent. Initial taste is balanced at the front with a light bitter/faint sweet, remaining a light bitter through the finish with a taste of grapefruit. Light to medium in the mouth, it has active carbonation and a creamy texture. The oak chips donít expose themselves in the aroma or taste, and with no predominant scent, we were grasping to describe the aroma.

For some reason this isnít as striking or memorable as the regular AB. Dark ruby brown color, couldnít coax much head out of it. Aroma of caramel, oak (heh), taste of citrus, rotting caramel, chewy mouthfeel with a lingering sweetness but still surprisingly thin.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2008 i know a lot of people like/love this ale, but for me it was average average average. i thought AB was pretty good, but i dont see a whole lot of difference here, quality wise. a nice fruity/smokey aroma, thin head, no tracing. flavor doesnt strike me quite like anything else out there, except AB and DB. slightly different aroma more smoke to be sure, and a little kick on the end, but just too much of the same for me. maybe its because im more of a stout/porter guy.
i cant help but think that if this and AB didnt have a cool name and bottle, most people wouldnt give this a second thought. honestly, id just as soon drink some PBR.

Bought 25Jan2008, tasted 02Feb2008. The aroma has a malty,smokey/roasted, sweetness. The brew has a hazy/cloudy deep red/brown. The flavor starts with a roasted/smokey, and sweet maltiness. The hops donít showcase themselves until the very end with a earthy, leathery taste. the palate has a a nice full sweetness from the malts that finishes with a long, bitterness at the end.

Ruby color with a dense 1" head. Has a grassy smell with a whiff of wood. Decent malty bittersweet flavor of AB is not as intense as the un-oaked version. Has a very mild wood flavor. Not a bad beer, but not the best mix of wood and ale. 1907

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. Mahogany colour, small creamy head. Powerful grapefruity hop aroma that collides abrubtly with oak. Sweet and rounded with solid caramelly body. Massively hoppy, citric and grapefruity. The oak and hops bitterness combine to an unpleasantly inky finish.
