COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This robust ale is dark, rich, and chewy. Somewhat bitter with a big and chocolatey malt flavor, the Snake brings the kind of flavor that drinkers of single malt Scotch or straight black coffee appreciate.

Bottle: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet roasty dark malts and some mild doughy character with a touch of dark chocolate. Starts with decent body and a pleasant dark caramel maltiness balanced with clean bittering hops before a drier, roasty finish. Quite drinkable and a pretty decent porter.

Bottle courtesy of stfun. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of chocolate, some spice, molasses. Tastes of roasted malt, some bitterness, some licorice. Mouthfeel is full bodied and oily. Finish yields lots of complimentary spiciness. Very good!

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2010 Sample at the Beer ’N Rock Band tasting on 08/27/2010: Pours dark brownish-black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted coffee aroma along with malt notes. Medium body with a strong roast character consisting of coffee and malt flavors, along with a touch of hops. The finish is coffee with a lingering roasty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Chocolate malt and hay/grass aroma. Dark brown with humongous head. Light chocolate malt flavor. Body on the light side. Not bad - would have like a maltier flavor

Ibrew2or3 (5745) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 14, 2008
Growler courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep brown with thin tan head. The aroma is of coffee beans mixing with various levels of roasty malts. The taste has a mild level of smooth dark roasted malts along with a touch of drying malt astringency. The malts seem to be a mixture of burnt, chocolate and some mild levels of sweet caramelization. Fairly thin mouth feel but fine for the style really. Enjoyable product.

BBB63 (5406) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - NOV 28, 2005
Bottle: Nearly opaque with a small but lasting creamy head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of chocolate, walnut, smoke, coffee, caramel, raisin, and dusty yeast esters. The taste has a big coffee and yeasty bite with the chocolate and malt more towards the background, improved as it warmed. Some traditional hop bitterness found on the finish. A straight forward basic porter and not ain’t so bad. The feel has the normal downfall for most in the genre, thin and watery, also a bit astrengent. Overall, easy to drink and quaffable.

riversideAK (5404) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - DEC 22, 2009
Bottle from StFun. A cool dude that loves malt liquor just like me. Nose has hints of chocolate, light roast, and a hint of earthy hops. Cola brown pour. No head or lace. Chocolate up front, roast on the mid palate, and a light bitterness in the finish that hangs around for a second. Just like the flavor description says.

Very dark brown bodied with a skinny li’l tan head, this has an aroma of chocolate covered dark caramel and a splash of coffee. A slight touch of vanilla enters the taste picture. The finish is similar to that of finishing an iced coffee. Not bad.

heemer77 (5008) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JUN 16, 2008
Bottled. The body was black with some ruby at the edge. A light brown and orange head on top. the aroma was sweet pancakes with some chocolate. There was also some definite malt. The taste was milk chocolate with some mocha. There was a bubblegum finish. Fairly thick body for the style. Nicely done.
