3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dorwart (2266) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - JUL 15, 2009
Decent sized head of varying sized bubbles. Sweet condensed milk aroma with some roasted grains and a hint of chocolate. Color is a very dark brown with some crimson overtones. Body is a bit thinner and less flavorful than expected but very smooth and super easy drinking. I would rank this a good "summertime" porter if there is such a thing. Some more roasted grains and light milk chocolate. Finishes smooth and pretty clean. A very easy drinking porter.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brigadier (2240) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - APR 21, 2013
12 ounce bottle
Hiding in the back of the fridge I found this little bottle. Not wanting to go with anything heavy for the time being I gave it a shot. I would have plenty of time for that in Baltimore a few days later with a visit to Max’s Tap House. I discovered why this is a so-so release. Pick one up on sale but there are better six packs in the Indianapolis area.
Aroma / Appearance - The brownish base had a brackish nature (not due to sediment but just the general color). A ring of sandy brown head tried to provide interest but the nose brought it crashing back to earth. With a combination of coffee, diet soda, and malt it was overly saccharine. Mellow and smooth, I found myself thinking "where is the rest of this?"
Flavor / Palate - The fluid mouthfeel is a bit on the soft side. Burned chocolate bars, ash, and black coffee range from somewhat engaging to downright boring. This is easy drinking but not because it is flavorful. It just lacks enough flavor to really require more than a few sips to get a handle on. In fact by the end it takes on a syruppy nature. If you can only try a handful of central Indiana beers there are many other things to pick up instead.

bottle thanks to awiseman01! Pours dark brown to black with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasty with light smoke and molasses. Flavor is black and roasty, but has enough semi-sweet cocoa and coffee malt notes to make things interesting. A great porter!
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JUL 18, 2008
Courtesy of StFun w2ho I’d like to thank for sending a growler AND a 12 oz bottle of this because it allowed me to just sit back and enjoy the growler, be sociable and just have a good time and then to later rate the bottle when I felt like it.
The aroma has a little bit of milk sugar, powdered malt notes, gobs of milk chocolate and very faint coffee notes. Malted milk ball is a great description of the aroma. The body is a dark ruby hued brown and holds an attractive, thumb thick, creamy mocha head that is quite lasting. It leaves very clingy, clumpy lace.
Very concentrated toffee, caramel and roast malt flavors on the fore. Very caramelized tasting. I wonder if they have a direct fired kettle. Chocolate and more caramel and toffee work well into the finish then leads into milk sugars and alcohol. Overtly sweet, but it works well here. This is a pretty tasty brew on the whole.

Bottle courtesy of StFun. Pours a crude oil black with almost zero head. Nose is light coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma with a mild bitter finish. Lighter mouth feel. Decent porter – thanks Josh!

Bottle courtesy of the Big_Bad_Bear. Pours oily black with tan head that fades rather quickly. Aroma is all roasted grain and burnt malt up front. Hints of smoke, coffee and dark fruits in background. Flavor the opposite, coffee followed by bitter cocoa and some very muted hop bitterness in the finish. Aftertatse all black coffee. Body is a tad thin.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jcr (1946) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - MAY 19, 2009
Bottle. Dark brown with tan head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter and moderately acidic. Slight metallic taste. Medium body with a watery texture and fizzy carbonation. Nice balance between sweet and bitter. Good drinker.
