desurfer (1024), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA May 6, 2008 Growler from Degarth. Deep brown body with little head. Woody, dry aroma. Flavor is lightly roasty and hoppy; a bit sour. Decent.
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of StFun w2ho I’d like to thank for sending a growler AND a 12 oz bottle of this because it allowed me to just sit back and enjoy the growler, be sociable and just have a good time and then to later rate the bottle when I felt like it.
The aroma has a little bit of milk sugar, powdered malt notes, gobs of milk chocolate and very faint coffee notes. Malted milk ball is a great description of the aroma. The body is a dark ruby hued brown and holds an attractive, thumb thick, creamy mocha head that is quite lasting. It leaves very clingy, clumpy lace.
Very concentrated toffee, caramel and roast malt flavors on the fore. Very caramelized tasting. I wonder if they have a direct fired kettle. Chocolate and more caramel and toffee work well into the finish then leads into milk sugars and alcohol. Overtly sweet, but it works well here. This is a pretty tasty brew on the whole.
GMCC2181 (309), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle from StFun! Thanks Josh! Black in color, good head but that faded quickly, left a good lacing. Aroma is coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee and hint of chocolate. Medium texture. I am not a coffee drinker, but this is still drinkable. It is ashame that this morning I had a beer-geek-breakfast, and that puts this in its place... But overall a decent brew. Thanks josh! iowaherkeye (1369), Back in Iowa City!, Iowa, USA Jun 25, 2008 12oz bottle, no date from Eric heemer77, thanks! Deep ruby with a one finger beige head, pretty good retention. Dominant chocolate with some underlying caramel malts and light smoke notes. Flavor is a bit smokier, with the caramel sweetness also coming on stronger. Roast and chocolate are still there, and has a semi-dry finish with bitterness peaking around 3-4. Light prickly carbonation with a medium body. Not too bad, but not amazing, either. heemer77 (3612), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottled. The body was black with some ruby at the edge. A light brown and orange head on top. the aroma was sweet pancakes with some chocolate. There was also some definite malt. The taste was milk chocolate with some mocha. There was a bubblegum finish. Fairly thick body for the style. Nicely done. xnoxhatex (778), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle thanks to Heemer77. Opaque black with small tan/beige pancake head. Aroma is a little dry but smokey, coffee, and a litt roasted malt. Sweet coffee with a little cherry, a little roast, very nice overall, a little sweet though, I can dig it though. Medium to light body with a stinging sort of carbonation. I can dig it and it actually tastes like it might have a little oak on it. But that is completely wrong anyway.
