COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Occasional.
Big, dark malt flavours in this almost black beer combine with a sweet, fruity hop taste to make this strong porter exceedingly drinkable for it’s strength.

Cask at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Pours clear, red-brown with a fine, creamy head. Toasty brown bread, hints of cocoa, burnt leaves. Light to medium sweet flavor, some dark bread, light chocolate, a bit of earth, moss. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition. Light burnt wood to finish, moderate earthy bitterness, mild baking cocoa. Not outstanding but very tasty.

Cask at Oaka at the Masion House, Kennington - 19/03/13. Light black/very dark mahogony brown in the light with a light tan head that soon dissipates. Nose carries roast malt, figgy datey dark fruit notes, light background chocolate. Taste comprises, dark roast malt, toffee, molasses, dark fruits, sugars, some hop presence. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not one of Oakham’s best beers for me, lacks a little flavour for a 5.5% jobbie, but a drinkable porter none the less.

Cask @ CPK. The pour’s a hazy brown with a medium tan head. The nose is of light chocolate milk, some sweet nutella spread, light almond nut and earthy twigs. The taste is mild red fruits, earthy charred grain. Notes of sweet hazelnut spread. Creamy body with a lovely dry finish. Light and quite flavorful. Overall, a real winner. Nice one, Oakham!

[cask at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Deep, brownish black pour with a cream-coloured head. Roasty nose, with some nutty chocolate and alcohol. I love the fact that Oakham aren’t afraid to put their beers northwards of 5%abv. The trouble is, they are all so easy to drink. Black Hole has a lovely sweet chocolate finish, like good quality drinking chocolate. Lovely stuff [19102012]

Cask at St Albans beer festival 2012. A black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Sweet, roasty, malty aroma. Tastes slightly sweet, roasty, malty, dark fruit. This went down far too easily.

Cask-conditioned at the Cambridgeshire & Lincolnshire Beeriodical, at the Seven Stars, Bristol, August 2012. Almost back with a slight tan head. Sweet, caramel and milk chocolate aroma, with some roastiness. Flavour was similar, with a charred edge and some fruit in the dry finish. Very good.

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. More or less pitch black colour with a small brown head. Aroma is caranel, some roasted malts, mild liquorice, chocolate and also some quite floral notes. Flavour is liquorice, ripe dark fruits, some roasted malts, ashes and mild ashes. Rather bitter dry finish in this one, compared to many other porters.
