Cask; Occasional.
Big, dark malt flavours in this almost black beer combine with a sweet, fruity hop taste to make this strong porter exceedingly drinkable for it’s strength.

Cask @ CPK. The pour’s a hazy brown with a medium tan head. The nose is of light chocolate milk, some sweet nutella spread, light almond nut and earthy twigs. The taste is mild red fruits, earthy charred grain. Notes of sweet hazelnut spread. Creamy body with a lovely dry finish. Light and quite flavorful. Overall, a real winner. Nice one, Oakham!

Tasted this at the GRAF, in The Briggait, Glasgow on the 27th June 2014. Cask, gravity dispense. Pours a dull black with a thin buff head. Malty aroma with sweet notes of dark Bournville chocolate in the long nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a dry chocolate sponge base with sweet black treacle present in the mouth. There is a slight note of damp earthy hops present in the brief aftertaste but this fades fast. Malt returns in the sweet finish with burnt treacle and plain chocolate flavours evident in the palate. An ok session porter but lacked the body and complexity of Milton Nero despite the higher ABV!

Craft Covent Garden. Cask. Hazy dark amber - brown beer, pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and light with fine carbonation. Tangy but mild dark malts. Little creamy lactose. Whispers of roast and dark chocolate. Light semi dry finish. Fine.

Cask at CP&K. It pours dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is bitter-sweet, earthy, chocolate, roasty, sweat, toast and earth. The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty, earth, chocolate, treacle, dark fruits, charred wood and a touch of pepper with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Solid porter.

Cask @ Society Room JDW. Almost black, dark reddish brown, reasonable head. Fruity malt aroma & flavour. Smooth with bitter sweet aftertaste. Had a lot better from Oakham.

Cask in Craft Islington. Black colour, hint of red, not much of a head. Quite roasty, licorice, tar, a minor note of blackcurrant and...cocoa powder. Lots of favours going on, nice!

Cask in The Farmers Boy, St Albans. Ok, so i made the big mistake of drinking this after the Hop Devil IPA, which was deceptively light but lingering on the palate. Opaque very dark brown to black. Nose is lactic milky, light roasted, subtle chocolate. Taste is fresh cut plants, cut green stems, light milk chocolate, light roasted malt, little bit of hop tingle. Subtle porter which is delicate on the palate. Flavours of very light roasted malt and hop bitter on the finish. I might have to revisit as the Devils on my tongue.
