On cask at Hop Inn, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Pours black brown with bubbly tan head. Strange stout, very dry and smoky. Decent but I prefer a more creamy mouth feel to my stouts.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Lower Red Lion, St Albans. Dark, almost opaque purple-black. Aroma of prunes, charcoal, lavender, dark chocolate. Usual stout aroma components, but there’s something a bit more complex about it: a sweet-umami aspect which I can’t quite place. Taste is fairly bitter with a slightly vinegary aftertaste. Quite good overall. I’d jump at the chance to have this again.

On tap, quite a hoppy aroma, with a thick mouthfeel, relatively easy drinking for its abv. Almost like a dark ipa .
