maeib (4012), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Apr 25, 2008 Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Merchants Inn, Rugby. A copper coloured beer with wisps of off-white head. The aroma is hoppy as expected of an Oakham beer. Nice citrus notes, but these are better in the taste which has grapefruit and a bit of orange. Some great hops and a big body for Oakham. A very nice beer indeed.
Pub (4119), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Apr 26, 2008 Cask conditioned at The Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham. Gold amber with white head. Big and hoppy dry bitter, lovely dry citric lemony flavours with dry grapefruity notes. Good depth and balance with a hint of alcohol. A very decent beer and worthy of saving the brewery building on its own. DruncanVeasey (1737), No. 46, Leicestershire, Germany Apr 21, 2008 Updated: Apr 24, 2008Cask, ’The Joy of Six’ Merchantfest ’08, Rugby. Bright copper slicked with white. Brazen floral/citrussy USA snout with a rub of soapy rose petal and leafy...Goldings? Apple yeastiness, hop zest, orange peel citrus, more soapy rose, and late biscuit. Some alcohol showing. What a fine perfumey ale to open the festival with.
