Medium offwhite head. Clear amber body. Fruity perfumy spicy aroma with grape notes. Dry-sweet fruity spicy gooseberry taste with grassy wooden notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry spicy wooden gooseberry aftertaste with grassy dandelion notes. Nice, drinkable, perhaps slightly sharp finish. (0.5l bottle, from House of Trembling Madness, York.)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle. Deep orange with thin white head. Lots of nice peach, orange, and dank mango stuff going on in the aroma - some woody, spicy notes too. Taste gives citrus aplenty - lime, lemon juice, light grapefruit - as well as peach and orange. Light biscuit malt. Slightly herbal character. Medium/thin body. Quite pithy citric bitterness that lingers a while. Good stuff again from Oakham.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, from Waitrose. Deep gold, thin shortlived white head and low condition. Good solid resinous hops with undertones of peach, caramel and petrol, quite hop bitter in the mouth with hops dominant, but some fruitiness coming through as it warms, lingering resinous hop bitterness in the finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
50cl bottle from Waitrose. Copper with a loose white head; aroma of gooseberry and peach; soft in the mouth with a fuzzy, peachy taste and a sharp grapefruit bitterness. A trifle on the soft and flabby side for me.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
My Bottom Line:
Fresh leaves and dew-covered pine needles are fraught with citrusy brightness before taking this engaging Golden Ale into a resinous hop finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the misty gold, drawing plenty of lacing on the pint glass.
-The mouthfeel is on this one is just perfect. Slick and slender, with superb drinkability.
-All flavours are clearly expressed.
-The aroma is not as revealing as the flavour profile.
-Drinkability is very high despite the intensity of the flavour profile.
-Stone-like minerals were present in the cask, but not nearly as much in the bottle. The filtering took care of most of it, I guess?
Bottle and on cask at Old Fountain.

Hand-pulled pint in Ye Old Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 29 Jun 2013.
Light amber to deep gold in body colour with a clinging head of white foam, the beer was in excellent condition.
Citrus feel to the nose and taste: Oakham seem to major on citrusy and tart fruit flavoured beers and this sits nicely in that group. I am not a huge fan of this style, but you have to admire the effort some breweries go to in their quest for different tastes.
Great beer if you are into grapefruit and gooseberry flavoured beers.
I donít like fruit teaís and I donít really like fruit flavoured beers, my scores are as objective as I can be.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I wanted to try this one after seeing many of the previous reviews. Locating a bottle on a trip it was one of the first to be opened as I work on the backlog of beers between trips to the pub. I hope it makes an appearance at one as I would love to compare it on draft to the bottle.
Aroma / Appearance - The base starts out a caramel brown. The gradient transitions to a transparent copper by the top. Lively carbonation sparkles up. Lemons, glazed oranges, and the filling of several Twix bars provide a candylike fruity backdrop. The tropical hops are floral as if walking through a greenhouse.
Flavor / Palate - The burst of mangoes and grapefruit is like drinking a rainforest. Next comes a wave of orange glazed cheesecake. The bright bitter finish is crisp and sharp. This is well rounded and great proof that "golden ale" does not have to equate to "boring."

Copper pour, off white head. Description is gooseberry and peach, both are there in abundance. Flavour follows the nose, with hints of summer fruits. Soft, mellow carbonation, Slick mouthfeel. Nice touch of bitterness in the finish. Really nice, would love to try from cask.
