4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2010 Cask handpull, The Crown, Nuneaton. Pale gold with a greenish tinge and spittle of halo. Lush stewed hop leafiness and tropical fruit aroma not so far from Mikkeller Nelson Sauvin; NZ Chardonnay, grape and passion fruit, peach, pineapple, blackcurrant...erm, ’dog pissed on by a cat’, according to my notes. Complex- one of those beers that just get me reeling every fruit I know off the top of my head. An authentic, contemporary US-style IPA...but better. Rounded and wine gummy with lemon zest, blackcurrant and tropical Starburst; quite a lot of honeyed, white toast, cashew balance for Oakham but just..dripping with hop loveliness, really. What a shame I’m going to work.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask handpull at The Barton Arms, Aston. Bit of earthy hop on the aroma. Lots of tangerine fruit. You can taste the alcohol which is not a good sign. Although others enjoyed this. It is not my favourite Oakham beer. And the other beers on the JHB, Bishops Farewell and the Citra were all so stunning, it rather put this in the shade.

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer Festival 16-07-10 Pours golden some haze with a white head. Aroma is really citrussy, loads of grapefruit flying off and with a nice maltiness there as well tying things together. The taste is grapefruity, nice bitter and pithiness, nicely malty, this is just so drinkable, I wasn’t sure of the hops used but dad seemed convinced that there was Nelson Sauvin in there and I reckon he could be right, lovely beer that us dangerously drinkable. I think that this may just have squeezed through as my beer of the festival. A8 A3 T9 P4 Ov17 4.1

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask conditioned at Merton Summer Beer Fest ’10. Slightly hazed Gold with white head. Ahh Oakham, one of the British Brewers that make the pulse race when you see it on, and this is exactly why, I see the word intense in it’s description and yes it is, but in a very drinkable way. Masses of grapefruit skin notes giving it a presence that forces you to take interest, you can feel the zest and life of it. Dry and hoppy, lasting on the palate, mouthwatering and very nice indeed.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A Mes rate. Cask in the Barton Arms.
Clean gold with a good white head and in excellent condition. Just like the Citra. Big tangerine and sweet booze and malt snout. Slight booze in the mouth, a hint of bitterness that is balanced out beautifully by the superb earthy malt and a lengthy boozy malt finish. Another well balanced cracker from Oakham.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2010 Cask conditioned gravity dispense Queens Head Sutton Bassett. Oh shit; this is good. Gold with a whitish head and packed full of stunning hops. Gooseberry and white wine notes. Sure there’s Nelson Sauvin in this. Strong boozy and citrus. Superb balancing and body giving malts. Amazingly easy to drink and beautifully crafted. I drank this in the company of 20 beer drinkers, only one of whom really shares my geekiness. They pretty much all drank it on my recommendation and they all found it stunning. Score 4.2
