SilkTork (3949), Rochester, Kent, England Mar 19, 2004 Updated: Jun 29, 2006 March, 2004 London Drinker Fest. This one had chris o and I scratching our heads to pin down the style. Winter Warmer seemed to best fit the bill. Very dark, dark, deeply, look into my eyes, witch woodly mysterious, bats and cobwebs red black appearance. A full bodied smack of darkly delicious roasty malts with woody, oaky tones and hints of black chocolate with nice, gently tangy hops. Balance is excellent. A splendid mouthfeel. Spots of sweetness melting into a coffee and demerara tinged finish. Spanking! [4.1]
May, 2004 Bright bottled at Reading Beer Festival. Notes on the day: "Dark bitter - roasty and sweet. Very tasty. Score 3.9" - this stood up well to bottling and scored higher upon considered reflection. [4.2]
MesandSim (4623), Highgate, Greater London, England Sep 8, 2008 A Mes rate: cask at the Hop Farm festival.
Murky light brown colour with a bubbly beige rim. Faint coffee in the aroma with some good caramel malt and well balanced thanks to some bitter hops. The flavour follows on well but the hops come much more to the fore giving a really good bitter bite to the finish making way for a lingering toffee aftertaste. Lovely stuff. Papsoe (11030), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 21, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear orangey brown with a rough, beige head. Unclean malt aroma. Medium body with some roasted malt and a distinct bitterness. 040408 downender (1725), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England May 30, 2008 Cask-conditioned at the Three Guineas, Reading 29/5/08. Deep brown in colour with a small, off-white head. Aroma had some caramel, nuts and red fruit. Flavour was sweet, with more caramel, before plenty of grassy hops in a long bitter finish. A lot going on in the glass but it didn’t quite come together for me. KimJohansen (4299), Copenhagen V, Denmark Apr 9, 2008 Dark brown with tiny short lasting head.
