COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - December until it runs out. Has appeared at other times of year. Also available bottle conditioned.
Strong, dark and rich, yet surprisingly drinkable for a beer of its strength. A substantial beer that should be treated with caution!

Hazy dark mahogany with a large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and coffee notes. Flavour was sweet with roasted malt, overripe fruits, caramel, chocolate and hints of coffee. Nice one.

Bottled. A dark brown headless beer with a cola look to it. A malty beer with a bit of chocolate. Noticeable strength. Fruits in aroma. Dry taste. Nothing stands out. Pretty ordinary and dull really.

Bottle. Almost black with no head. Aromas are sweet mollasses with liquorice and herbal, smoky notes. Some cola with dark chocolate. Flavours are sweet smooth chocolate with winter fruit and spices. Smoky and vinous. Spicy pine hops on the finish. A good strong beer.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Ealing Beer Festival, May 2006. Deep red colour. Full roasty malt and treacle aroma underlaid with raisins and other dried fruit. Lots of plummy fruit on the palate with soft caramel and hints of bitter cherry. Smooth and sumptuous mouthfeel. Not too sweet, nor is the alcohol too intrusive. Cracking stuff. An excellent winter warmer (even if, for some inexplicable reason, it appeared in May on this occasion).

Picked this up from Beers of Europe Poured dark brown, not much of a head. Aroma a little bit fruity (Dark fruits steeped in something strong) tasted pretty much as expected quite malty, rich dark stewed fruits, alcohol occasionally noticeable but quite refined really. A nice beer but not particularly memorable.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars’ Hampshire Beer Festival, Bristol 2/05/2011. Dark brown, flat, with no head. Sweet, caramel and dark fruit with not much else. Dull.

(Bottle. Thanks to SaintMatty) Dark brown colour with brief, bubbly, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, prunes, caramel and dark bread. Malty, fruity taste with dark bread, caramel, dried fruit, wort, roasty malt and slightly dusty hops in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness and medium bitterness. A touch metallic perhaps. Quite enjoyable.

Cask@Ealing Beer On Broadway. Nice full and full bodied, with sweet chocolate and caramel flavours. It is on the sweeter side, but a nice hit of warming (but not overpwering) alcohol in the finish helps to balance it out. I thought this was a great beer.
