3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Joeh (2038) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAY 12, 2006
Cask Conditioned at Ealing Beer on Broadway Festival, 2006. We had this and two milds on the table and they all were fairly similar, the alcohol in this was very well hidden and this didn’t seem an awful lot stronger but did have more body. Dark malts and lots of caramel, but not very interesting.

(Bottle, thanks omhper) Pours deep dark red. Light roasted aroma with some coffee, caramel and a subtile fruityness. Undertones of flowers, fudge and stone. Full malty, medium sweet flavour with some allmond paste and a touch of fruits. Medium bitter finish. Rather smooth, medium body.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops, fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of dusty hops, malt, caramel, alcohol, and yeast, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks KimJohansen for sharing.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 harrisoni (10909) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUL 5, 2006
Cask gravity at Blakes, Dover. I thought this was a house badge beer as the beer is called Blake’s and so is the pub in Dover. But no! This gives me another rating. Ha ha! Good seasonal dark winter warmer with good malt and some bitterness

Gravity fresh @ Pig's Ear Festival, East London. Murky red brown. Raspberry and banana aroma. Soft mouthfeel going toward watery. Like watered down marmite. Wet vanishing finish with some soapy notes. Spiesy reckons I down-rated this because I had it immediately after the No. 1 Barley Wine - I reckon he's just sore because he can't tell the difference between a masterpiece and an average strong ale!
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 omhper (17436) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 12, 2007
Bottled. Very dark ruby, small beige gead. Light dusty fig aroma. Fairly sweet with clean, bold malt character and medium body. Dry dust covers the malt, hops stay in the background. Somewhat raw in the mouth. Medium bitterness.
