Commercial Description:
In 1204 the Bishop of Winchester, Bishop Godfrey de Lucy, granted to Winchester Cathedral 'all profits' which may reasonably be derived from the Vill (town) newly built upon the Harbour in the Manor of Alwarestoke:, and in so doing made the first formal acknowledgement of Gosport's existance. Now you can enjoy the fine ale brewed in celebration of the Borough's 800th anniversary.
Gosport 800 is a golden, malty ale that has pronounced hop character with delicious toffee and caramel flavours leading to a buttery aftertaste.

Drab amber-brown beer, few transparant bubbles as head. Nose as from sweet sherry, nutty, firmly oxydized. BBd is indeed 4 months gone. Sweet, with a bitterish roasted taste that seems to swing to hoppiness, before completely reverting to sweet portwine. Sharp burning MF, not exaggerated however. Medium bodied, thinner by oxydation. It’s been said before, English ales rarely stand the test of aging gracefully. Small wonder that the exceptions as Th. Hardy’s became so famous. This one has aged way too fast (brewed a good year ago!). Still, it’s nowhere bad.
