JorisPPattyn (4500), Antwerpen, Belgium Aug 3, 2005 Drab amber-brown beer, few transparant bubbles as head. Nose as from sweet sherry, nutty, firmly oxydized. BBd is indeed 4 months gone. Sweet, with a bitterish roasted taste that seems to swing to hoppiness, before completely reverting to sweet portwine. Sharp burning MF, not exaggerated however. Medium bodied, thinner by oxydation. It’s been said before, English ales rarely stand the test of aging gracefully. Small wonder that the exceptions as Th. Hardy’s became so famous. This one has aged way too fast (brewed a good year ago!). Still, it’s nowhere bad.
