Cask; Occasional - next available October 2010. Also available bottle conditioned. Originally brewed as a Trafalgar bicentenary special but now produced regularly (but not permanently).
To mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar this exceptional ale that has been brewed in the finest Naval tradition. Initial strong, fruity hop flavours lead to a bittersweet aroma, balanced by a warm chocolaty finish

Cask (gravity) - Norwich Beer Festival 2011. Poured with a big & fluffy lasting beige head on top of a clear chestnut brown body. Buttery sweet caramel aroma, slightly choccy with some mid fruits coming through. Roasty, dryish, slightly woody, touches of tobacco on the tongue. Lingering dry malty bitter finish. Medium body, softish mouthfeel. A solid ESB, particularly once the buttery tones subside.

Bottle conditioned from Grimsby Tesco. Bronze, thin shortlived off white head and low condition. Pleasant mix of chocolate, citrusy orange and earthy hops in the nose, chocolate not so apparent in the mouth but the citrus and hop notes remain and a slight nuttiness develops. Finish is quite dry and bitter but doesn’t get too intense, some yeastiness develops towards the end.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml from Tesco in Winchester. Copper colour with white head. Initial full roasty flavours with a fairly nutty character, chestnuts came to mind, and then comes in a dryish, peppery, woody hop like old oak beams. Overall a pretty decent beer, heavier in flavour than most.
