berkshirejohn (5947) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - MAY 6, 2016
Cask at teh Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. An opaque black pour with a thin beige head, and a dim tawny glint when held to the light; the aroma has some light honey; the mouthfeel is smooth but rather thin, and slightly sweet with a honey taste that isn’t overpowering; rounded off with a dry floury finish. This falls short of being a decent mild, and also of being a decent honey ale.

ForlornHope (389) - Hampshire, ENGLAND - JUN 10, 2015
Bottle at home. Pours almost black in colour with hints of red. Brown head that doesn’t stay long. Aroma of burnt coffee beans and chocolate. The taste is really quite bitter. Smooth, malty mouthfeel and a taste of rich honey. Slightly unbalanced in that the strong bitterness does not really go with the honey sweetness, but interesting.

Overall - nice blends of malts and sweetness.

stravale (2723) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - JAN 18, 2015
Bottle from Beers Of Europe [150115]
Dark caramel brown, clear, thin off white rim around glass, no head
Aroma of caramel, quite fruity malts, dab of sweet chocolate, touch of raisin, nice soft sweet fruits, mellow toasted malts
Taste of caramel, mellow toasted malts, maybe getting a hint of honey, touch of chocolate, nice caramel malts, good subtle flavours
Palate - Very little carb, almost flat (but not a problem here), medium body, smooth texture. Finish is a wee dry, more bitter toasted malts in the linger, slightly earthy
Overall - Good drinking, rather flat but doesn’t detract
