UPDATED: SEP 29, 2013 On tap @ Super Deli Mart. Pours watery dark black with a thin head. Aroma is roasted malts, maybe burnt a bit. Taste is dark malt, again a little over roasted. Some pumpkin spice flavor but really no pumpkin. That’s what you’d get with the better Elysian pumpkin efforts like Dark o’ the Moon. Also lacking the smooth and rich body you might expect from an imperial porter. Not bad, and I like Oakshire a lot, but this is a tough style to master. Revisiting a year later. Body seems a little heavier. Overly roasted, burnt notes still dominate. Definitely some dark cocoa flavor, but does seem a stretch to call this a chocolate porter. And again, some pumpkin spice but lacking the richer pumpkin taste found in others.

Bomber. Spice aroma with notes of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and nutmeg as well as roasted malt, pumpkin and chocolate. Pours black with a thin but retentive light brown head that has good lacing. Starts with roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Finishes smooth with the aforementioned spices and a bit of pumpkin flavors. Good pumpkin porter, thin with the pumpkin but still pretty tasty.

Brown black with a cola brown head. Aroma is earthy pumpkin, and all the associated pie spices, and a mild tootsie roll chocolate note. Taste is very chocolatey, and rich and rounded, with a slightly burnt gingerbready goodness into the finish. $5/22oz

Poured from a bomber today. A: Pumpkin puree, cocoa powder, and dark chocolate. A: 2 finger tan head with an easy pour. It recedes to a thin layer. Black body with quite a bit of red in the glass. T: Cocoa and ripe tomato dominate. Vinegar is there too. O: This looked good, but the strong taste of tomatoes killed it for me. I cleansed my palate and the tomato and vinegar flavors are still there. Infection?

22 oz bottle from Mulberry Max. Black appearance with a small, lingering, light brown head and patchy lacing. Aroma of ginger, cinnamon, chocolate, dark malts, pumpkin, herbs and other spices. Similar flavor, heavily spiced and mildly sweet. Light to medium body with a thin, watery feel for an "imperial porter". Too many spices.

Bottle: Pours a deep brown, near black color. Topped with a thick and creamy tan head. Sort of minimal spice aroma, but enough cinnamon and nutmeg to get the point across. Roast and faint cocoa. The flavor is lightly bittersweet, roasted malt, and a lighter amount of spice. Good stuff. The spice plays a supporting role to the ale and I like that.

Bottle from OR in LA. Pours jet black. Spice aroma - mostly cinammon - but then more subtle in the flavour. Cocoa and spices are subtle but the base is a nice porter so it works well. doesn’t feel imperial, but the alcohol catches up. Enjoyable beer, a porter at heart not a spice beer and that’s a good thing.

On tap at Hops and Pie poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, cinnamon, allspice and clove. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of cocoa, roasted malt and spice with a smooth dry lingering spiced finish.
