Sample at FoBAB ’12. Pours a hazy dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma had caramel/toffee, oak, apple brandy that became a touch boozy. The flavor was moderately sweet caramel and toffee, apple brandy, oak, vanilla that still had a touch of heat.

On draught at Roscoe’s. Really bold fruit flavor, especially apple notes. The aging mellows out the hoppiness.

Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deep brownis pour, well hazed. Dark with a frothy tannnis head. Aromas are apple brandy, oak, vanilla, gentle spirit. Oak, vanilla, toffee and toast, some sweetness. Initial is smooth medium bodied, a firm apple brandy sweetness, touches of apple. Middle is apple, toffee, gentle spice. Some gentle sweetness. Backend and finish offers tannoic oak, vanilla, apple. Really nice, settles a bit. Tasty, a bit hot, big Apple Brandy influence that gives some good flavors but interferes on the palate a bit with integration.

It definitely picked up a lot form the brandy barrels. Slightly fruity. It is a bold barleywine to begin with so expect a blast of flavor.

Tap @ Saraveza... Poured quite dark, a dense brown pour with a thin head. This was a super solid barley wine. Lots of rich dark fruits, dark sugars like toffee and caramel. Some booziness but it was quite balanced. Low bitterness and was more on the malty sweet side for the style.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mcberko (4072) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 22, 2012
Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a very dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of brandy barrels, liqueur, candied sugar and noticeable booze. Flavour of brandy barrels, dark fruits, toffee and English malts. Very full-bodied and well-designed. Sweet, but never cloying. Very rich and full-filling. A world-class BA barley wine here.
