22oz bottle shared by ygtbsm94: Pours a clear dark copper bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a lightly sweet dark caramel and bourbon vanilla oak nose with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with pretty good fullness and dark caramel sweetness with a smooth vanilla oak and bourbon character before a slightly warming, drier finish. Pretty well-balanced and complex.

Bottle shared by ygtbsm94. Pours clear amber with a medium, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is alcohol, spicy hops and fruity esters with biscuit and cookie malt with spicy hops. Flavor is malt forward with spicy alcohol and hops, fruity esters and a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.

651mL red wax thanks to ygtbsm94. Pours a hazy deep good to amber with a diminishing whiter head. Sweet bourbon and honey nose with small bacon fat and tawny malt character. Taste is salty, mild bourbon sweetness, with decent hop bitterness remaining. Very nice. Bitter dark chocolate finish. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours caramel brown. Tan head. Nose/taste of candied dark fruit, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla and nuts. Finishes with hint of warming alcohol. Medium body could be a little fuller given the ABV.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’12. Pours a dark cola brown, with a big, dark tan head. Moldy fruit on the nose. Yuck. Skunky hops blend with what would otherwise have been a good barley wine, throwing it far off track. I wasn’t a fan of this one.

22 oz bottle. Cloudy brown with a ring of bubbles and a haze. Nose is wet oak, caramel, raisin, slight citrus and bourbon. Slick medium body with a soft buzz. Initially i get cinnamon and bourbon; sweet apple and caramel mostly countered by grapefruit and orange peel. Just as easily a DIPA or a strong ale.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with thin slightly off white head, aroma brings notes of dark fruit, toffee, some caramel, slight smoke, roast, some vanilla and bourbon notes, hints of roast and dry oaky notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of oak and sweet bourbon, some vanilla, dark fruit, some slight caramel and bitter earth notes, the oak really dries it out well at the end. Dig this stuff!
