Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with thin slightly off white head, aroma brings notes of dark fruit, toffee, some caramel, slight smoke, roast, some vanilla and bourbon notes, hints of roast and dry oaky notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of oak and sweet bourbon, some vanilla, dark fruit, some slight caramel and bitter earth notes, the oak really dries it out well at the end. Dig this stuff!

Bottle thanks to my secret Santa. Pours a near clear deep amber with an orange hue and a light brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and caramel with a bit of apple and a decent amount of bourbon. Flavor starts with some earthy grain and bread with growing sweet grains, caramel and some vanilla/bourbon that adds a bit of heat in the finish.

Bottle. Pours with a hazed brown body and a small, off-white head. Aromas are very peppery and spicy (oak and alcohol), rye, bourbon, peanut shells. Plenty of alcohol and a light caramelized maltiness. Heavy on the barrel. Flavors are spicy oak, boozy. Quite dry, light caramel and dark fruits. Not very bitter but incredibly spicy and a bit tannic. Medium bubbles and very warming.

Botttle from John’s Grocery, Portland. Pours dark brown with no head and a cat piss and treacle aroma. There is a plum and vanilla flavor with a bourbon finish. Leaves bitterness on the palate. Complex and tasty.

Pours hazy muddy copper – brown with thin white head. The aroma has wood like notes, booze, spicy wood, maybe some spicy rye too and a nice sweet earthy fig like sensation. The taste is yummy with a big load of blunted pine hops followed by a bit of citrus and then molasses, wood and some vanilla. It comes across boozy too but right to style. Yummy and it comes together very well.

Deep ruby caramel pour. Speaking of caramel, it dominates, along with a very pleasing fruitiness, and vanilla and oak from the obvious but not too much barreling. This is a heavy, thick beer, but is very smooth at 10% and well received all around. Definitely enough to want to try more from Eugene!"

22oz bottle shared by ygtbsm94: Pours a clear dark copper bronze with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a lightly sweet dark caramel and bourbon vanilla oak nose with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with pretty good fullness and dark caramel sweetness with a smooth vanilla oak and bourbon character before a slightly warming, drier finish. Pretty well-balanced and complex.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is fruity and malty with notes of fruity hops, oak and biscuits. The flavour is bourbon, oak, malt, caramel and some booze. Quite boozy finish. The bourbon is mostly in front in the flavour.

TheAlum (6373) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - NOV 10, 2010
Sampled at FoBAB 2010 (Chicago, IL). Pours a murky dark amber hue, some fire behind it. Frothy tan head, sticks around small layer. Aromas are rich bourbon, wet sticky toffee, vanilla, dried fruit, nuts. Initial rich toffee, nice bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, light oxidation, mellow biscuits, dried raisins, orangle marmalade. Finish is mellow sweet, rich fruits and nuts, wet sweet toffee, finish is mellow sweet. A sweeter Barleywine overall, lighter and spirit and more invested in caramel, toffee, dried fruit, and touches of marmalade. Could it use more barrel time? Maybe.. Nice beer

bottled, thanks to ericandersnavy, hazy orange color with aroma of spice, whiskey and metal, flavor has a metal edge to it to go along with the brown sugar, whiskey and orange, palate was getting thin
