4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours caramel brown. Tan head. Nose/taste of candied dark fruit, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla and nuts. Finishes with hint of warming alcohol. Medium body could be a little fuller given the ABV.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours hazy muddy copper – brown with thin white head. The aroma has wood like notes, booze, spicy wood, maybe some spicy rye too and a nice sweet earthy fig like sensation. The taste is yummy with a big load of blunted pine hops followed by a bit of citrus and then molasses, wood and some vanilla. It comes across boozy too but right to style. Yummy and it comes together very well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to my secret Santa. Pours a near clear deep amber with an orange hue and a light brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and caramel with a bit of apple and a decent amount of bourbon. Flavor starts with some earthy grain and bread with growing sweet grains, caramel and some vanilla/bourbon that adds a bit of heat in the finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with thin slightly off white head, aroma brings notes of dark fruit, toffee, some caramel, slight smoke, roast, some vanilla and bourbon notes, hints of roast and dry oaky notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of oak and sweet bourbon, some vanilla, dark fruit, some slight caramel and bitter earth notes, the oak really dries it out well at the end. Dig this stuff!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a hazy brown color with an off-white head. The aroma has a ton of bourbon and toffee notes, with some oak notes mixed in as well. I also get a little bit of vanilla. There is no mistaking the fact this is a bourbon barrel aged beer.
The flavor follows suit. The dominant flavors are bourbon and oak, with some vanilla, maple and toffee mixed in as well. The alcohol in the beer is somewhat hot and could use some mellowing out. Still, I think all of the flavors work very well together and make for an enjoyable beer.
Medium to thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Very glad I got to try this one.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at FoBAB 2010 (Chicago, IL). Pours a murky dark amber hue, some fire behind it. Frothy tan head, sticks around small layer. Aromas are rich bourbon, wet sticky toffee, vanilla, dried fruit, nuts. Initial rich toffee, nice bourbon, vanilla, dark fruit, light oxidation, mellow biscuits, dried raisins, orangle marmalade. Finish is mellow sweet, rich fruits and nuts, wet sweet toffee, finish is mellow sweet. A sweeter Barleywine overall, lighter and spirit and more invested in caramel, toffee, dried fruit, and touches of marmalade. Could it use more barrel time? Maybe.. Nice beer

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Big thanks to heyta for getting this bottle out to me shortly after the release. Served in a SAVOR snifter as part of last night’s barrel-aged barleywine tasting.
Poured a clear golden-copper color with a small off-white head and some sparse lacing.
The nose brought forward quite a bit of straight grain, highly reminiscent of freshly-cracked pilsner malt. Mild bourbon and oxidation there as well. Fairly boozy, too. Flavor was equally unimpressive with strong grain and booze plus some harsh tannins. Only a mild bourbon flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium and chewy. Quite boozy, though this is the first place the bourbon has a positive effect on the beer. Dry finish.
Not impressed with this at all. I was holding out hope that it’d surprise me, but a letdown even from my already-low expectations.
