3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a dark copper color with a nice beige head. Aroma is insanely woody, tons of oak, earthy notes, smells bitter, vanilla, alcohol, dark fruits, tea leaf old hop aromas and caramel. Flavor follows the nose and is sooo woody, tons of oak, super earthy with the tea leaf old hop notes and decent bitterness, some vanilla, alcohol, dark fruits and caramel too. The body is on the lighter side of full with a creamy and fairly dry mouth feel. Overall a pretty interesting Barley Wine, certainly the most woody and oaky beer I have had in a while.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed at an all barley wine tasting at Travis’s house on February 21. The pour is a nice dark caramel color with hints of ruby poking through. There is a nice tan colored head that falls off quickly. The aroma is really woody. Almost to the point I want to question if there’s a stave in the bottle. Behind that there is a little caramel and a touch of vanilla to it. Light fruit is also present. The flavor again has a ton of wood. It’s surprising for this to be so wood forward with minimal bourbon. There is a little more of a dark fruit and licorice presence on the back end, but it’s light. The mouth feel is really thin, and the carbonation was too much. This practically jumps off your tongue. It had potential, but this bottle was all over the place

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 Bottle: Thanks, Steve. Cloudy, burnt amber pour with a moderate khaki foam that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma of caramel, wood, anise, heavy butter toffee, with a strong backbone of perfume & earthy forestry. Flavor has lots of wood up front. Tons of oak, almost drying things out a bit. Roasted barley, earthy bitterness, anise, mild oxidation, dirt, prune, & a hint of licorice. Kind of astringent, it finishes quite dry for a barley wine & it a touch over carbonated. Kind of kills the vibe. A little heavy on the wood, too. Not terrible, but definitely a bit messy.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep ruby caramel pour. Speaking of caramel, it dominates, along with a very pleasing fruitiness, and vanilla and oak from the obvious but not too much barreling. This is a heavy, thick beer, but is very smooth at 10% and well received all around. Definitely enough to want to try more from Eugene!"

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The infamous #1. Update on this, since I believe it was released in 2011.
A: Mahogany with a thin creme colored ring on top. Lacing.
N: Big bourbon nose on top, with heaps of caramel. Toffee and prunes, Oak.
T: Big sweetness and a helping of bitterness. Lots of wood.
M: Sticky, medium-heavy body that’s slightly watery. Alcohol is big .
O: Still astringent even after all these years. The nose is very inviting, but the sensation of drinking it still takes a person by surprise. Guess I’ll keep sitting on these.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to my secret Santa. Pours a near clear deep amber with an orange hue and a light brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and caramel with a bit of apple and a decent amount of bourbon. Flavor starts with some earthy grain and bread with growing sweet grains, caramel and some vanilla/bourbon that adds a bit of heat in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Hazy amber with no head. Nose is buttery, toffee. Smooth flavor, toffee, medium body and low carb. This seems to have lost its sweetness and thinned out, maybe past its prime.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cheers to Tooch4321 for hooking me up with this one. Cheers, Adam! Pours a hazy orange-brown with a white head. Nose is caramel, toffee, dates, booze, oak, and whiskey. Flavor follows with booze, toffee, bourbon, and caramel all over and a hint of raisiny-dates in the background soaking in whiskey. Light to medium in body and boozy but redeemable overall. Decadent and rich, but still has another year or two.
