Pour out of 22 oz bottle, dark brownish red pour with lacing tan head, aroma has vanilla, oak, bourbon, slight cocoa into a bit of earth, lots of caramel, toffee, sweet sugars, slight spice, pretty simple. Taste is a mix of dark fruit, toffee, caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon, slight vinous, brandy notes into earth, grass, hints of grain, spice, finishing fairly sweet.

Darkish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, hint of bourbon. Medium-full bodied, sweet on the palate, slightly astringent finish. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, wood, bourbon, hint of soy sauce. Nice.

Good. Almost barleywine esque in underlying malt flavor. Just on the border of too much bourbon. Slightly boozy.

22 picked up at the Boise COOP sometime last week... shared tonight with reinheitsgematt 1/2" tan/dark yellow head dies back pretty fast atop a sorta hazed dark walnut brew... lacing is spotty at best. Nose is vinous fruity esters... dark fruits and something that makes me think of soggy tobacco.. sweet leather. Flavors are pretty akin to most Olde Ales... plummy/cherry notes.. some background leather.. a bit wine like or even like tawny port... the barrels add a nice envelope of connectivity that ties things together. Body is a little light with too big carbonation at this point and makes for a disjointed brew ... I think it will get a bit more homogenized with 6 months or so in the cellar.. right now it is a little abrasive.

Draft. A: Dark mahogany with a thin creme head. Good lacing. N: Bourbon, caramel, vanilla. Some milk chocolate. Toffee. Wood. Hops lend a pine and earthiness.Sweet nose. T: Very bitter, surprisingly so. Very little sweetness. Almost one note. M: Huge alcohol. Sticky, medium heavy body. O: Can’t get around the astringent bitterness. Bourbon’s good on nose, but disappears in the body.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2014 Bottle (thanks to goodbyeohio)... Poured deep brownish with lighter highlights towards the bottom of the glass with a thin khaki head. Big barrel and whiskey notes on the aroma. Nice barrel character with cookie dough sweetness and malty grains. Rich alcohol booziness and loads of oak and hints of bourbon. Nice vanilla and earthy grains too. Great barrel character here and tasting wonderful now. Not sure this even needs age.
