Bottle (thanks to Tweety for sharing this)... Poured a dark amber tone with a tan head. Very malt driven brew with a mild bitterness and warming sensation. Lightly hop with a caramel, nutty and earthy tone really shining through. Easy drinking and what you’d expect for a winter warmer.

Clear dark amber under a sticky lacy light beige head. The aroma is earthy nutty with a dark malt syrupiness with a odd but very welcoming herbal background. Nice flavor of Rosemary and some sort of herbal tone with some earthy malt tones, light nuttiness, a little Yrba Mate tea, and a light touch of earthy resiny hops on the finish. A little herbal for my liking but balanced and nuanced.

Bottle courtesy blutt59. Clear brownish color. Aroma is slightly roasted with chocolate notes. Flavor is heavy chocolate with a huge bitter bakers chocolate on the flavor. Did I mention chocolate?

This was a long distance shared beer tasting with Strykzone via Facebook chat. This poured pours reddish brown with a tan head and good lacing. The nose is fairly mild and the aroma a lightly roasted caramel malt presence with some hints of chocolate, coffee, ripe fruit and pine. Fairly complex. The mouthfeel is just a bit bolder than medium and the mouthfeel is somewhat sticky. The flavor, like the nose, is not overwhelming, and shows lots of malts with some subtle hops of citrus an pine, The finish goes on and on, and is bitter but not overly so. Overall a very drinkable brew that tastes just as good at the end as it did at the beginning..

Dark mud-brown body, with a smallish burn-tanned head. The bouquet strikes with luxurious brown malt and candi scents mixed with a chocolate mint flair. Quite the festive holiday bedazzle. Familiar, yet markedly different from the other holiday faire. Chocolate ESB flavors coil around the tongue, which is caressed by a bitter-sweet hop current and trickles of pine sap.

Traded bottle. Pours a nice mahogany brown with reddish highlights. Small tan head but no real lacing. Pretty nice aroma of caramel malt and a slight nuttiness. Flavor was surprisingly gentle with some nice hops present. You know, this was pretty nice...especially for a style I typically don’t favor and find a little "alcoholy."

01-May-10 (22-oz bottle: Purchased 30-Dec-09 for $4.77 at liquidsolutions.net) This well-hopped brown ale pours hazy, amber-brown into the glass with over an inch of foamy, dark-tan head forming. Retention is about average as the head settles to a thin, almost filmy layer, leaving a moth-eaten curtain of lace on the glass. The malty nose is chocolaty, somewhat caramely, and earthy, with moderately aromatic grassy hop notes just slightly in the background. This balance continues on the palate, with malt-driven flavors of chocolate, burnt toast, earth and wood mingling with piney, citrusy and grassy hop notes. As the sips mount, however, the hop flavor and bitterness lingers on the palate, finishing strongly. The weight is full-bodied, but it’s still light on its feet, the dryness and hop bitterness keeping the mouthfeel lively. Carbonation is medium but pleasant and smooth. The gnome may be ill tempered, but the beer surely calms his unpleasant disposition. A very enjoyable winter ale from a brewery that is quietly putting out great beers.

22oz bottle shared by DuffManSW. Rating #16. Murky dark brown pour with a light tan head. Odd aroma, light caramel and a little chocolate, but there’s something else I can’t put my finger on. Roasty dark chocolate flavor with a little bitterness in the end, not bad. (1199)

On tap pours dark brown with a smooth beige head. Nicely hopped up brown ale. Thin bodied, nutty flavor, soft caramel, citrus floral hop finish. I didn’t really care for this on the first sip, but this really grew on me thoughout the pint.
