Out of the bottle. Pours black with a coarse white head which I wasn’t expecting. Smell is a nice balance of roasted malts and hops. Taste starts hoppy and finishes with a nice roasted flavor. The bitter flavor of the malts linger on the tongue, which isn’t my favorite, but it isn’t enough to make me not enjoy the beer. This is a great CDA.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with an off-white head on top. Aroma is coffee, citrus, cocoa, and roasted grain. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, roasted grain, and citrus. On the palate the beer is medium bodied and somewhat creamy with the right amount of carbonation.

22oz bottle in Seattle. Dark roasty black, foamy gray head. Strong hoppy aroma, much more IPA than most CDAs I’ve had. Roasty malts, chocolate. But very IPA forward with piney bitterness. Quite balanced, one of the better CDA I’ve come across. Tasty.

Dogbrick (8658) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 24, 2012
Sample at Columbia Valley Brewery. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium creamy tan head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, hops and pine. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, roasted malt and citrus. The finish is hoppy with a lingering pine aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draught @ Hawthorne Hophouse as ”O: Dark Thirty CDA” (8,8%) Rated on 11.07.2012
Aroma is rather roasted with some coffee and chocolate. Flavour has hops, roastiness and some peat. Good, but the peat does not fit here perfectly.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark brown with a ring. A nicely hopped nose. The first sip is almost as well hopped as the aroma indicates. Fruity bitterness that is citrus. Minimal black notes but there is light anise. Not bad and it is more drinkable than expected.
