Gray skies are a regular part of life in Western Oregon. Overcast Espresso Stout is the dark and silky stout we crave while giving us the shot of organic espresso we need. IBUs: 37 / OG: 14.5° Plato

Black with a dense two-finger head, great retention and lacing. Aromas of chocolate, molasses, dark berry, espresso and faint smoke. Espresso flavor up front, with a mild roasted bitterness, mocha, dark chocolate and dark fruit. Just a hint of grassy hops in the background. Full body, minimal carbonation, exquisitely smooth and silky mouthfeel and a dry finish. Loved this.

12 oz can. Pours dark brown black with a medium fizzy creamy brown head that goes to a thin layer and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet and roasty chocolate malts with some acidic coffee.

The flavor is sweet chocolate with lots of roast coffee and a slightly ashy finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I like the sweet chocolate and roast coffee.

Pours black as night with a very dense tan head. Aroma is strong coffee, some chocolate, and malty sweetness. Taste starts off as slightly sweet coffee and turns to a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Finishes dry and bitter with a little astringency. Delicious beer when the weather gets shitty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2014 Maybe this was old, cause it seems to be liked, and I like Oakshire...and LOVE coffee stouts. Not this one, though. There was a little of that olove like vegetal quality that while not overpoering was a distraction. Coffee seemed a little stale and the body was thin and lifeless. I didn’t hate it as much as that would indicate. The aroma and look were nice, but the body and flavor lacking. I got the impression if the coffee were gone, this beer woulda sucked 10/14 - tap. much much much better on nitro and fresh. still won’t trust a bottle, but this beer CAN be quite good. 2.7-3.8.

Can at home. Pours dark with a thick tan head. Aroma of hops and coffee. Palate is medium for a Stout. Tastes of malt and coffee dominate. Very enjoyable.

I poured a 12oz can into a nonic pint glass. There was no freshness date and it cost $2.04 ($0.17 per ounce).

Appearance: Jet black body, completely opaque. Pours to a two-finger, dark tan, foamy head which never completely dissipates and leaves minor lacing.

Smell: Deeply roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet overall.

Taste: Coffee-infused stouts tend to be some of my favorite beers, though many of them tend to be behemoth brews. It’s rare you find a “regular” stout with as consistent of a coffee flavor as the big boys, though Oakshire Overcast Espresso Stout is a fine exception to that rule. While not as robust as an imperial stout, the coffee flavor maintains its flavor and intensity from beginning to end. Many beers of this type tend to fade after a few sips, so this is a nice change of pace.

The palette is, not surprisingly, coffee-dominated. A dark French roast style is prominent right away, though it’s quickly followed by a pleasant sweetness. This is an oatmeal stout at the core, so the cereal-like taste is difficult to ignore. Coupled with the dark malt it creates for a bittersweet chocolate sensation, though it’s mostly in passing and is not cloying at all. Additional coffee bitterness and roasted flavor on the back end creates for a well-balanced palette.

Drinkability: For a 5.8% ABV beer, Oakshire Overcast Espresso Stout has the best of both worlds. There’s the strong, tasty palette of a heavy brew, but with the lighter mouthfeel and easy drinkability of a mid-range strength. The mouthfeel is a little crisp for a stout, but does have a smooth texture. It finishes clean (maybe a little too clean), which makes it a bit of a challenge to not drink as fast as possible.

From 22oz bottle to shaker. Pour is a deep coffee dark brown, almost black with a thin khaki head. Nose is huge coffee, espresso, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, milk. Taste is sweet and bitter, medium-heavy body with a nice crisp finish. Not too bad of a beer, but kind of lacked complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

can. pours dark brown with a very nice creamy beige cap, good retention and lacing. brown sugared very fresh coffee, dense chocolate maltiness, complex roasted maltiness - never ashy, nicely integrated resin, few berries, spicy licorice - never overwhelming. moderately soft carbonation, medium body - oily, thick and velvety, semi-sweet resinous-bitter coffee finish. an excellent coffee stout.
