3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle into a Samuel Smith pint glass.
A: Pours an ultra-dark brown color. The head is a two finger mocha shade featuring a nice texture and perhaps even nicer retention. Looks good in a glass, thatís for sure (especially the Samuel Smith pint glass, which almost seems tailor made for stouts).
S: Wowee, this one is very forward in its mocha, chocolate, and roasted barley qualities. Oats are faintly notable, as well. Iím pretty impressed, actually.
T/M: Dry, dry, dry. This opens dry/bitter, finishes dry/bitter, with seemingly no room for sweetness anywhere. Thereís a slight ping of chocolate to start before coffee, roasted barley, and oatmeal all take over. I notice a dimension of piny hops on the back end, too that never overpower everything else. I reckon itís a bit more airy-feeling than I like; Iíd kill for a silkier texture, or maybe itís just lower carbonation Iíd kill for. The latter quality is the only thing that bugs me here - it allows it to come off as being too dry and even a bit rough at times.
O: One has to love how drinkable this is. The lack of creamy softness is easy to overlook for this reason. I wouldnít trade for it; but I would buy it again if I ever caught it in a store.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap @ Bridge Barvand Grill, Eugene OR. Very dark with smooth notes of coffee and chocolate. Thiner head but enough to cascade nicely. 9 in taste only because I would prefer it a little sweeter. Finish is slightly bitter but compliments the coffee bite.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark black. Chocolate and coffee aroma. Chewy and creamy. Espresso and chocolate flavor dance. Holy moly! Might as well have a coffee milk. This is the coffee drinkers dream stout! Yes, the flavors are sweet. In my opinion it could use a little higher abv, but the flavors otherwise are yummy.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pitch black body, swirly tan lace up top. Smell of fresh coffee jumps out, milk in the back summons thoughts of an iced latte. Body and taste are a bit thin and watery. Dark chocolate; bittersweet. Lacks the depth of the better imperial stouts.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, chocolate cookie).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Simple but pleasant nose. Balance is ok but not great...the sweetness is rather overwhelmed by the bitter-acid combo. Bit watery too. All in all just barely above average for me. Definitely not a "Sweet Stout"...at least whatever batch I have ainít, not even close.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark pour, cola highlights, modest head. Intense roasty nose, chocolate cake and coffee. Powerful espresso roast flavors, some sweetness like a Thai iced coffee, bitterness from the beans perhaps more prevalent than bitterness from the hops. I continue to be impressed by Oakshire; this drinks like a much bigger beer and while Iím not really in the mood for it right now, thatís my fault rather than that of the beer.

22oz bottle with fresh new label - This is my go to session stout. The aroma is lovely, smells of fresh roasted whole coffee beans, fresh grain, and a hint of vanilla. Smooth medium body with a roasty finish, Yum!
