Kind of mer, oak qualities of the pinot barrel show through strongly. Comes across more as a stout than strong ale, dark malted body.

Sampled at PIB. Pours a solid brwon, with a red tint. Small white lacing. Aroma of yeast, sour fruits, and funk. Flavour heavy on sour fruits, with a bitter, hop finish. Really dry.

Tap @ Portland International Beer Fest... I enjoyed the fresh version of this so to try this barrel aged version was a treat. A Belgian Rye CDA is an interesting beer and I was curious how the Pinot aging affected it. Poured near black with dark brown highlights and a khaki head. Some citrus hop flavors remained, with roast, Belgian esters, and peppercorn spices. Slightly sour with a vinegar tanginess which most likely came from bacteria in the barrels. More tartness in the finish.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours dark amber brown with a tan head. Aroma of red wine, light hops and sour fruits. Flavour of sour fruits, funk, vinous qualities - sour fruits / red wine finish. Tastes nothing like a Black IPA, more like a sour. Decent, though some of the qualities don’t mesh together that well.

Tap at KLCC Microbrew Festival. Essentially the same look and characteristics (citrus hops mixed with pepper, clove etc) as the regular DBP, but with a subtle oak and slightly less subtle vinous note added in. I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the regular one, as I didn’t feel these new elements added much to the brew as a whole. Still a good beer though.
