Boutip (4726) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 15, 2014
Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a medium size off-white foamy head with medium retention. Aroma of caramel malt is dominating which is not what I was expecting considering the style. Taste is dominated by loads of caramel malt with some light grainy notes and a dry finish. Body is light with good carbonation. Big time disappointment as this is not close to the style guideline which I would have expected considering the labels plus I really don’t care to drink this much caramel malt.

Bottle - Malty, spice and funky yeasty esters. Clearish copper with a creamy beige head. Sweet brown sugar, molasses, yeasty sweet fruity esters. A bit sweet for me.

In short: a yeasty carbonated ale.
Pours dark copper, hazy with frothy tan head, moderate head retention, some lacing. Bready, yeasty, caramel anfd liquorice aromas. Light to medium body, high carbonation, some viscous texture. Taste is caramel, bready, nuts, some harsh mouthfeel due to overcarbonation. Biere de Garde???. Enjoyable anyway.

Cloudy rusted brown pour with a tan head that’s comprised of biggish bubbles but lasts. Lots of molasses and brown sugar and spice on the nose. I’m not getting any fruit impressions at all on this. Interesting. Very flavourful on the palate with those same notes coming out strong. The high carbonation and slightly sticky texture are taking away from it for me. There’s a more biscuity feel to the palate that leans toward cake with the sweetness. There’s also something sort of fruit like in there.

750 ml cork and cage. pours a hazy red/brownish colour with a lively white head. Malty and caramel aroma with some pez candy like quality, gets a little more complex as it breaths a little bit. I get some tart lemon pie and molasses aroma as well. On the palate it is well carbonated, which for me enhances those fruity and tart notes, with a touch of sweet molasses & yeast. Again i feel that as it opens up it gets a little bit sweeter and brown sugar like but always sports a good length. Decent stuff.

Deep brown pour with a thick fluffy tan head. The nose is loaded with sweet toffeeish malt. A fairly pronounce caramel malt character. A touch of tartness up front with some dank musty yeast character that actually pretty authentic. The malt profile leans a bit too sweet for me but I can live with it. Assertive carbonation and a lingering sweetness. As it warms up, it picks up even more dusty notes. Some fairly chewy malt components - I probably should have held onto this for 6 months to a year but it’s still pretty interesting.

750 ml bottle from brewery. Pours a murky amber brown with billowing light tan head. Aroma is roasty and fruity with banana, toasty wheat, dark dried fruit and caramel. Flavour is fairly sweet with some roastiness - notes of sugary caramel, toasty wheat, banana, raisin and other fruit. Carbonation fairly lively. Pretty nice.

April 21, 2014. Bottle at The Workshop by Latitude. Touch of sourness. Cloudy warm reddish brown. Fluffy white head. Quite carbontated. Sour nose, malty straw aromas, with similar flavours. Not bad. Paired quite nicely with the charcuterie and cheese platterrs.

Poured from a 750ml bottle, dark reddish brown, big creamy tan head, smells of raisins and spicy dark rye bread. Taste is more dark rye bread with some spicy belgian phenolics and a slightly metallic finish. Medium body with lively carbonation. Nice beer they should just call it a dubbel though.

750ml bottle. dark copper pour, small beige head. biscuity malts, sweet fruit, minerals, herbal hops, and some light farmhouse funk. Solid mouth feel, quite lively carb. The finish is medium bitter, some spices, light alcohol, crisp, and quenching. Quite nice, some age would really bring everything together. interesting beer.
