   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 12/20
Rastacouere (6134) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 19, 2014
Cloudy pale golden pour , very hard to pour at that, covered by a gigantic, rocky white head. Peppery, pear-like nose with a tartish rusticity with dust and floury dough character. Pale fruits and fairly acidic flavour profile, it works decently in the nose, but the mouthfeel is, even for a Saison, very exageratedly carbonated. It almost hurts, it bites with a carbonic acid splash. Underneath, a grainy, rustic grain malt profile couples with the high effervescence to provide a relatively dry palate, with an almost astringent, drying finish. Little hoppiness in there, but laudable yeast character, just racy enough to feel authentic, I could have scored this much higher with a more polite effervescence level. It just kills in-mouth flavour development as it is.

Bottle at Tom’s. Lightly hazy gold pour with thin white head. Aroma is really fruity, peaches, a bit of banana even, really yeasty, too estery. Taste is sweet, fruity, bready, spicy Belgian finish. Palate is med full bodied with med carbonation.

Bottle (750 ml). From Ontbeertaster, thanks Andrew! Clear golden with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is quite fruity and yeasty along light spiciness and hints of sweetness. Taste is sweet, herbal and quite fruity along cereals, light spiciness and honeyed notes. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Fruity finish. Not easy to drink because of the fruitiness. Lack of balance.

[bottle from Kelly and Joe--thanks!] Sweet and peppery aroma with spicy phenolics and white grape. Hazy dark yellow under an eternal, rocky, white cover. Fairly smooth and creamy with high carbonation, fresh white grape and apple flavour with no shortage of peppery phenolics and faint pineapple. Medium to light body, high carbonation, sweet but with a dry finish.

lesifflebiere (1293) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 10, 2014

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2014 Bottle - Banana, tropical fruit, grass and citrus. Hazy gold with a rich white head. Stone fruit, yeast with some light peppery notes in the finish. Not bad.

Great aroma - floral and sprucey. Looked beautiful - bright sun yellow; somewhat hazy, normal for what I consider to be the classic Belgian farmhouse style; and a bright billowy white head with great retention. Taste was phenomenal - sweet up front like honeydew melon; transitioning to sour lemon, pineapple, tangerine; finishing peppery and pleasantly bitter from the hops. Nice carbonation on the palate, certainly didn’t sit flat. Overall an absolute pleasure for drinking on the deck mid-afternoon after mowing the lawn. There are cheaper saisons on the shelves but I’m glad I decided to pay a little extra and give this one a try!

Pours a hazy yellow colour. aroma is spiced, has some weird lemon/cider like quality but has esters and a hint of grass. On the palate it is smooth, sports a medium body and has a spicy finish. It is okay.
