OB Golden Lager is an authentic German style 100% malt beer. Crafted from golden malt and selected aroma hop, with Oriental Brewery’s tradition of prefection.

Much worse than the slightly older OB Blue. A pathetic attempt at a German-style lager. A truly pretentious beer if there ever was one. The pour is awful, with almost no head. The taste is surprisingly bitter, but not in a good way as if drinking a delicious pale ale. Bottle or tap does not make a difference. Overall all I give this beer a 1 for pretentious advertising out of its class, being overpriced for what it is, and of course for tasting like absolute garbage. Please bring back OB Blue, for even though it was cheap "Bud-like" beer, it was drinkable and it was what it meant to be.

Sweet aroma, in glass is a clear golden beer with low carbonation and small head. When you smell it just only malt notes are felt. The taste in fact just only have malt flavors making in too sweet, the hops are almost absent. The finish is watery. If it really has German hops like they say, at least they should use a better proportion to make it work

ALLOVATE (2333) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - FEB 19, 2014
Straw gold with low carbonation and a thrifty, quickly fading foam. Nose has hints of Fairy Floss, haybales, DMS creamed corn but is so subdued it is almost absent. Light bodied, soft in carbonation and delicate thin. Mild malt, straw, candy Fairy floss, a touch of DMS but nothing too offensive. Low hop, very low bitterness and a clean finish with no trace once it passes the tonsils. Fits the bill for Asian pal lager. Highly drinkable, bland and matching of a Korean pork BBQ. Pours two fingers of head on a clear golden colored body. Live up to the name. The aroma is not great: metallic and ricey. The taste has a smooth sweetness and balanced pretty well with the mildest lemon bitterness. The texture is crisp with soft edges. It’s not bursting with flavor, but its not bad (aside from the smell).

Bottle. Golden pour with a thick white head. Hop, bread and slight fruit. Not as light a body as other Asian beer but a typical lager. Goes very well with Korean BBQ

This beer is fine. A bit dull but is crisp and does the job. Not sure about the German hops but at least it does not reek of corn. Watery with some hoppy and malty notes. Low carbonation.

Bottle from Ranch 99 in Edmonds. Pale clear yellow, cidery, foamy head. Soapy hops, pale vaguely european malty lager. Muddled, odd mashup of asian and euro mass market lager. Golden, sure

355 ml can bought at Aeon in Skyline Plaza, Tsuen Wan.

Pissy golden yellow colour; Half finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing and notable fizzy carbonation; Sweet, slightly pungent smell of malt, with corn, grains, light syrup, light choking floral, grapes, and hint of grass; Light sweet taste of weak malt, with corn, light syrup, unknown chemicals, hint of wet cardboard, and notes of citrus & grass; Light body, thin but slightly slick palate; Taste profile is light malt, with cornish and slightly artificial taste, not off-putting but awkward. Also some shades of light grapes. Malt is somewhere between Asian macro Pale and half-arse Premium Lager, somewhat unfulfilling; The chemical taste is not annoying, nor there’s any rubbing alcohol. Hoppiness is murky light floral plus notes of lemon and grass in nose / taste, and near zero bitterness for a sweet finish; Wet after taste, very easy but a bit odd to mouth.

Comments: This is better than most Asian macro Pales, with fair maltyness and tolerable low sweetness. Corned and slightly odd chemical taste aside, the fruity and floral nose give this brew some extra dimension. Barely decent but drinkable.
