2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at the brewpub. Hazy dark yellowed brown with no head. Very faint lemon and orange peel aroma with very faint vanilla cookies - rather bland. Flavor has a bit of banana atop husky wheat with a bready, moderately grainy finish. It’s a promising start of a hefeweizen, but lacking in depth. I’d try it again next season and see if it’s improved.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at the source. This was poured into a plastic pint glass.
I was skeptical at first, but here’s the rest that might tell you differently.
The appearance was a hazy to cloudy burnt orange color. No head or lacing but I figure it was poured into improper glassware so....yeah, no further comment.
The smell, wow, that’s exactly what a true hefeweizen is supposed to smell like. Nice amount of speckled clove with the banana esters and a light wheat to it.
The taste took those aromas to combine and complete with a light wheat kick on the finish. A sweet wheaty clove aftertaste came in front of the finish.
On the palate, this sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. The carbonation came across good and smooth for the style and for me.
Overall, I say this was a hefeweizen true to its German roots. Pure in all that it is. By an American brewer, if only this got out of Illinois, uh oh, Weihenstephaner.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
At their brewpub. Yellow hazy pour from draft. Smells like lemon Lysol, in a good way, just strong aroma. Taste like a mild summer shandy. Actually liked this and thought I wouldn't

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft. Straw-colored, hazy body. Short, fizzy head. Light aroma of clove, wheat and banana. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Some light tartness in the finish. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Tastes a bit like a light Oberon. Not much to the aroma.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I liked this hefe despite the rainy cold day. Stopped through the brewpub on my way up to Chicago. Light, but flavorful with the right amount of citrus spicyness and not too much banana.

At the brewpub. I prefer my hefeweizens a little more banana-y clove-y yeasty. This also was a bit thin, which seems to happen alot with brewpub Hefeweizens for some reason. That been said on it’s own is was a nice light refreshing summery beer. Serving: Tap
