JoeMcPhee (3815), Jackson Heights, New York, USA May 4, 2008 500 ml bottle. Deep brown with a dark ruby tint and a fast fading tan head. Aroma is lightly bready, with some prominent brown sugar, rye bread, rich toffeeish maltiness and a kiss of fruity plums. Flavour is decent with a fairly prominent charred toastiness that isn’t readily apparent on the nose. Plums and date honey in a fairly clean yeastiness. There is a bit of metallic flavour that I don’t really dig, but otherwise it’s quite nice.
yesyouam (369), Fairport, New York, USA Oct 11, 2008 Obolon Oksamytove is a very sparkling, dark red-brown lager with a soft, dense, moch-colored head. It leaves nice lacing. The aroma is sweet, like caramel, and there almost seems to be a hint of coconut about it. It is medium-light bodied and reasonably smooth. The finish is slightly alkaline. It is sweet and slightly resiny with no bitterness, save a little instant coffee kick at the finish. It is very mellow and chuggable. I’m impressed. doublebock (163), USA Sep 29, 2008 Amber color with no head. Slightly malty aroma. Caramel chewiness with a flat musty palate. Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 Dark brown with reddish hue, tan head that vanishes fast. Smells like dark bread dough, really malty, sweet, very much like pumpernickel bread. Soft, highly effervescent mouthfeel. Nice, sweet, mellow, smooth. A little too sweet but not bad overall. liinis (481), Finland Aug 14, 2008 1L plastic bottle from Tallinn. Dark brown clear with minimal head that diminishes entirely. Very unpleasant aroma, can’t say what it is. gives a doubtful feeling in stomach. Not bad flavor some sweetness and a hint of hops. Sour end fizzy and light mouthfeel. Plastic bottle is not good. Coke also is better from a glass bottle. JamesD (159), Centreville, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2008 I thought this was a very nice dunkel. This beer is very rich and has a nice toffee/caramel flavor. There are no major brewing flaws I can detect and it is very clean and smooth. Good job Ukraine.
