1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2016 From a 2 l pet bottle labeled " Сбемпое " which seems to simply represent an export version of this beer, so although I am not one hundred per cent certain it is the same beer and an internet search did not reveal anything, I’ll add my rating under this entry. Lightly lacing, moussy, snow white, stable head, deep old gold colour, a tad darker than usual for a pale lager, and slightly hazy (which in this case was probably just chill haze). Aroma of damp kitchen towels, wet paper, sugar corn, unripe green melon, breakfast cereals, moldy bread and a sulfuric DTMS touch (burning rubber). Neutral onset, minerally accents here and there, bland corn sweetishness (cornflakes), smooth and thin, lightly oily body, grainy sweet and then nothing else happens: practically no hops are detectable, so the finish does not add bitterness, and lacks body. Only a light metallic effect lingers. Thin, bland, industrial, cheap pale lager, like there are too many in this world.

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Roger Wilco in Pennsauken, NJ was out of Baltika 6. While searching the other Eastern Europeans beers came upon Obolon for two bucks in a half liter embossed bottle. Palest Lager, wisp of lemon aroma, corn, grass, and overall clean non-flavorful beer . Adequate thirst quencher while mopping a basement.

Cabbage water aroma which settled to stale cornflake/carboard with hints of brown pears. Taste is the same with some lemon, light bitterness and metallic.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This is a solid Euro-lager on the lighter side of things. It’s straw yellow w/ a short-lived head of soapy foam. This has a pretty typical array of grassy hop and husky malt flavors. It’s very light bodied and bordering on watery but still has more flavor than most American light beers w/o sacrificing in the way of drink-ability, finishing w/ a solid bite of earthy bitterness. I can get behind a beer like this, light but still fairly flavorful.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
500 ml can. A malty nose under the pop tab, nothing wrong with that. Pours a respectable pale lager yellow, under a short fizzy head. Taste starts out pleasantly malty and fizzy, with a bit of bitterness on the tip of the tongue. But then I noticed a growing presence of corn adjunct. In fact, a bit like candy corn. The further I got into it, the less I was able to shake the off taste. With a bottled import, I try to be gentle given the likelihood having sat around for months, getting lightstruck, but in a can, I think I’m closer to the brewer’s intention, and the intention here was clearly another cheap Soviet lager.
