[3762-20110620] Tap. Mild sugary maple wood aroma. Hazy, dark red body with a quick bubbly head. More woody maple sugar in the flavour with quite a boozy bite. Medium-full body. Interesting, quite sneaky with the booze. (6/3-/7/3/14) 3.3

Sample at Arrow & Loon cask festival. 26JN11.

App.: Deep mahogany with no head. Aroma: Deep, tangy, fruity, woody, chocolate, coffee, herbal, some grapefruit, resin, pine, all over the place (or at least all over Ontario...). Palate: Medium body, nearly flat. Flav.: Chocolate, raisins, dark dried fruits, citrus, berries, a bit tangy, some herbal notes, a bit of vanilla; off-dry with a little tang and big bitterness.

Interesting. Paid $6 for the sample...a little much, I think.

Deep dark brown pour, tending to black. Tight tan head. The nose is completely laden with bourbon and a bit of herbal sort of sweetness. There is a lot of bourbony character along with a little bit of soft sweetness as well. A light touch of molasses and some dark toasted character as well. That herbal oakiness reminds me of barrels that used to hold Posiedon or Leviathan way back in the day. There is a little bit of tartness toward the finish as well as well as some late hoppiness. I don’t know why they’re calling this an IPA - it’s an American Strong and a pretty nice one at that. Colour me surprised.

A reddish brown ale with a thin light moka head. A light herbaceous, woody aroma, a bit of licorice, dark fruits, some bock qualities. In mouth, a dark visous and hoppy concoction, with molasse, wood estract, lingering woody bitterness, interesting. On tap at Arrow and Loon, Ottawa Cask Festival, June 26 2011.

Cask sample at the first Arrow & Loon Cask Festival. Cloudy dark brown with no head. Vanilla, bourbon, wood, plum and some malts. No carbonation, medium bodied, starts sweet, nice dry finish, some booze/bite at the end. Wasn’t sure what to expect but it was interesting.

on cask at the golden kiwi. flat and brown. hoppy and roast nose with barrel influence as well. muddled flavour of beers that shouldnever have been blended. bitter bourbon finish. not worth the effort but a cool experiment.
