This is Occidental’s homage to the delicious ale of Cologne, Germany. Crisp and dry, it is clean and lager-like, with a pleasant, slightly spicy hop profile supplied by German Perle. Very "sessionable."

Tap at Occidental Brewing during Zwickelmania 2015. Fresh and light pale malt nose, tiny grassiness, and gentle hops. Clean medium straw color. Sweet malty initial, mid palate flavor changes with light hopping, finishes soft and fruity. Thin body, light carbonation. Smooth, fresh, and clean, This (according to the bartender) is Occidental’s flagship brew.

On tap, poured into a shaker. The aroma is a mild honey and cereal. It pours a clear honey color with a dense, white foam, medium ring and a light wisp surface. A light runny lace is left behind. The taste is a medium sweet. The light body beer is thin and fizzy. Mellow notes of honey and mineral water flavors com re through on the palate with a spice and light citrus finish. It’s clearn and dry with a mellow mineral and spicy aftertaste. Very sessionable and refreshing.

On tap at Stateside Craft, pours a clear yellow with a medium white head. Aroma brings out sweet cereal malt and lots of dry graininess. Flavour is fairly bland but dry for a kolsch, with grains, cereal malts and breadiness. Decently balanced and drinkable, but boring.

16oz can pours a clear gold with some bright white head. Nose is weird, dusty, some bright hay, some lemon, a little old couch. Flavor is lightly sweet, hay, straw, lemon, a little metal. Clean finish.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver

Blond color, compact small head. The aroma is fresh, a bit bready, but too light. Light mouthfeel, dry; it has a bit of straws, cereals, and very light grass. Ordinary bitterness.

Sampled at VCBW 2014 pouring a pale straw color with a small white head and only a few specks of lacing. Aroma is light fruits and grains. Taste is a light fruity and malty sweetness with a grassy and spicy hop bitterness. Light bodied with decent carbonation providing a pleasant sensation on the palate. Well done Kolsch that I highly recommend to others.

Pale golden with abundant foamy head. Aroma is mostly grains, cereal, taste is pure grain, malt, some hops present in the finish, very dry and chalky. A decent representation of the German original.

Decent representation of the style. Bit bolder than your average Kolsch with a nice grass note and hop presence. Like the tall boy can!

Salmoniform (1180) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - MAY 13, 2014
Poured from tallboy to glass. Crystal straw hue with fizzy white head. Aroma is clean, slightly sulphur, white peppercorn, straw. Mouthfeel is refreshing with a light body and high carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with an astringent sulphur following and CO2 sharpness in the finish. Overall this is a nice summer kolsch.
