3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
A second example of Kvass that I’ve tried, noticeably different from the other brand (Buket Chuvashii) and I think I very slightly prefer this one. Can from Bell’s Market in NE Philly. Pours very dark brown, coffee-like: almost opaque. About a centimeter of thick, foamy head dissipates quickly, leaving thin but persistent carbonation. Strong aroma of pumpernickle and molasses, hints at worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or dark rice vinegar. Sweet and sour; neither the sweetness nor sourness is unpleasant. Very balanced. Rich, heavy, extremely filling, like drinking liquid bread.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Can from a Moscow grocery store. ABV is 1.2%, but can looks exactly the same as the one here. Pours dark brown with a tan head than fizzes away instantly. Aroma of treacle, raisins, brown sugar. Taste is of raisins and sugar. This is probably the most common kvas in Russia, and like most of this country's beer (read pale lagers), it only makes sense to drink it on a hot summer's day.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Tap. Redish-brown color. Tiny to almost no head. To drink it just after their 2% kvas is mistake. This is basically caramel and sugar concentrate mixed with water.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Can at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. It pours deep brown with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is caramel, earth, brwon bread, and sugar. The taste is damn sweet....caramel, sugar, brown bread and tangy raisin with a sugary finish. Light body and moderate carbonation. Damn sweet and sugary, but definitely not the worst Kvass out there...
