Dark and cloudy with a large, puffy, khaki colored head and good lacing. Some resinous hops pop up in the aroma before the roasted malts move in. Earthy, toasty flavors of the strong malt backbone are well balanced by citrusy/herbal hops. Bitterness and alcohol are noticeable in the aftertaste. Medium-to-full bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel leading to an average length finish.

12 oz bottle. (Grape & Gourmet) Virginia Beach, VA
Dark brown colour with a mid-size creamy tan head. Roasted malt, nice hoppiness and some bitterness in the aroma. Yummy! The flavour is roasted malt, sweetness, moderate bitterness, hops and liquorice. Quite nice Black IPA.

Very surprised by the low numbers on this one. Definitely one of the better microbrews from the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area. There are a lot of stout flavors present in this IPA, and the high alcohol is integrated very well.

On draft at O’Connor. Pours a stout brown color with an off-tan head. Nose is roast, some piney chocolate, and bitter coffee. Flavor is similar with bitter coffee, some pine, dark chocolate, and roast. Light to medium in body and a nice Black IPA overall.

Large, rocky, tan head with good retention and a fair lace. Dark, chestnut hued brew. Nice, piny nose, some cola. Body is med/full, a bit oily, tad chalky. dry, roasty flavors, little coffee, faint smoke. Dry, roasty finish, little meat and bones. Decent.

Pours cola brown with aroma of pine, coffee, and roasted malt. High-hopped flavor with some roasted malt and dark chocolate. Decent beer.

The aroma is pure hops. It would be nice to get something else on the nose as well. It is a great, deep, dismal, black color with nice head retention and good body. The flavor is significantly better balanced, with roasted malt flavor to partner with the hops to make a delicious and pleasant beer.

Bottle, thanks to my good friend, Chad. Thanks! Poured a dark black brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was roasted notes of malt, with some bitter chocolates. Flavor was some nice citrus hops, with a touch of earthy notes. This was pretty nice - well balanced, without a malt blowout or an over-hopped leafy hop character.

From a 12 oz bottle at the Beer Head Meetup BBQ in Falls Church, VA. Pours clear cola with an ecru head. Aroma of toasted nuts. Flavors of grassy hops with some noticeable caramel. Smooth finish.
