4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This one poured a darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was lots of citra hops, medium roast too. Flavor was similar but more intense, big juicy fruity citra followed by a mild roast balance. One of if not the best black ipa i’ve ever had. Incredibily balanced.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to the kind soul who brought this to the last Tampa weekly tasting. Pours a porter brown with an off-white head. Nose is roast, coffee, some tropical fruit, and some earth. Flavor is similar with roast, some unsweet cocoa and big hoppy citrus. Light to medium in body and nice overall.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour form a 12 oz bottle. Deep reddish brown ale, clear wehn held up to the light. Generous light tan head. Aroma is modest citrus, grass, hints of roasted grains. Taste is rather tame - a little sweet malt and roasted malt at the start, modest hops late swallow and finish, citrus and maybe a little grass. Faint tones of burnt coffee in the finish that may add a little character. Overall, too tame and restrained for a black IPA, or a standard IPA for that matter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brown pour with Carmel hue, inch of beige head. Carmel malt and pine and citrus hop aroma, grass too, very nice. Carbonation is a bit flat, watery mouth feel, finish is roasty but clean. Taste is muted citrus and pine with a subtle roasty malt. Like a roastier watery version of the CPA, not bad but not as good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - thanks blowOffTube! Pours deep clear ruby black with a small tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is roasty, pine, citrus. Flavor is the same, light sweet and light bitter, definitely mixing the roast and hops well. Medium body, a bit watery on the palate. Nice effort.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle, big thanks to umich03jm. Poured into my DFH IPA glass. Very dark brown, near black color. Good thin tan head, good retention. Leaves nice lace. Mmmm, awesome citrusy, tropical fruity hop nose to this. Good grassiness. Lots of fresh citrus, some pineapple. Good roast malt, and some chocolate, some cola. Light spicy hop. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Good moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Nice black IPA. Very tasty. Good chocolately character.

Pours jet black with no head. Aroma of citra hops, malt and hoppy bitterness. Taste is citrusy, bitter, slight roast, very nice with a lot going on.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Black pour with decent off white head and some decent cling. Nose is fairly hop forward but with ample amounts of roast. Taste follows with a surprisingly nice balance of citrus, roasted malt, and tropical fruit notes. Different but certainly in a good way.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2014 Bottle: Black as night with a somewhat gray & beige tinted head that takes its time receding and leaves nice webs of lace as it goes down. Aroma is full of pine, sharp citrus peels, a chocolate-y roast, light hop oils, & faint tropical fruit. Light pepper-y notes, too. Taste includes some piney, resinous hops up front & towards the mid-palate with a little bit of zesty orange & citrus peel, but onwards the brew is dominated by a thick roastiness. Light cocoa powder, roast, woodsiness, with only a tingle of leftover bitter leafiness from the hops. Not as citric as you’d expect (considering the name) but a good beer nonetheless, more like a hopped-up porter than anything. Grew even more cocoa-y in the finish as it warmed up. I like it.
