Just like our Citra Pale Ale with just a slight variation in flavor and of course color!

Fresh bottle from Champane’s Cellars. Very black and thick body. Smoke and ashtray aroma - unfortunately that was also the taste and therefore not so drinkable.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Poured clear dark brown with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt, chocolate, citrus hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a good complex beer.

12 oz bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a dark cola brown with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roast, dusty, earthy, light citrus, lasting bitterness. Not bad.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a rich creamy dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate soaked tropical fruits, roast, mango, passionfruit. Some pine, rich roast, and floral notes. The citra is well showcased in the aroma. Flavor is big, fruity, lots of delicious citra with touches of chocolate, roast. Medium bitterness. Medium bodied, crisp mouthfeel, light carbonation. Finishes with roast and pine. Interesting. I’ve never had citra in a dark beer before but this worked really well.

Bottle to pint. Looks good; a semi-opaque dark coffee with thin light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes of dark malt, roast, and hops with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

bottle. Deep brown with one finger head. Rich toasty malt with big Citra hops. There’s a very nice interplay between the chocolate malt flavor and the fruity hops.

This one poured a darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was lots of citra hops, medium roast too. Flavor was similar but more intense, big juicy fruity citra followed by a mild roast balance. One of if not the best black ipa i’ve ever had. Incredibily balanced.

Thanks to the kind soul who brought this to the last Tampa weekly tasting. Pours a porter brown with an off-white head. Nose is roast, coffee, some tropical fruit, and some earth. Flavor is similar with roast, some unsweet cocoa and big hoppy citrus. Light to medium in body and nice overall.

Pour form a 12 oz bottle. Deep reddish brown ale, clear wehn held up to the light. Generous light tan head. Aroma is modest citrus, grass, hints of roasted grains. Taste is rather tame - a little sweet malt and roasted malt at the start, modest hops late swallow and finish, citrus and maybe a little grass. Faint tones of burnt coffee in the finish that may add a little character. Overall, too tame and restrained for a black IPA, or a standard IPA for that matter.
