Draft at HopCat. Dark golden color. Bourbon aroma. The bourbonnkind of zaps all the citrus flavor. Not much vanilla. Would have to say I like the regular kind better.

On tap at Petes Place. Not much citrus going on in this one. Tropical hints come in the end. A little weird. Not too bad though.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2013 Tap: amber body, nice clarity; foamy, white cap recedes quickly to a thin collar around the outside. Aroma is like a less bitter Citra PA with a very small bourbon-oak & vanilla inclusion. Some citrus, grapefruit, juicy orange. Taste follows the nose exactly, though with more warmth and bourbon presence. Juicy citrus fruits without the expected hoppy bitterness. Woodsy oak mid-palate, little bourbon warmth all around. Finish of very light whiskey, oak, orange, mango, and grapefruit. Not a fan of bourbon barrel hop-centric beers, but this one was actually alright.

Draft. The pour is a nice hazy yellow with a nice head. The aroma is a perfect blend of hops and bourbon. The taste is a little bourbon heavy upfront, but mellows nicely. A nice drinking ipa.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at The Oak Cafe. Pours a clear golden orange color with a big fluffy head that fades slowly and leaves nice lacing. Really like the aroma, smells sweet. Vanilla, cherries, wood, light bourbon, coconut, mangos, and tropical fruit. Interesting taste. Big oak barrel notes up front, coconut, wood, vanilla, and bourbon. I get a little citra hop taste in the finish with some tropical fruit but the barrel aging has overtaken the base beer. At least the bourbon flavor is fairly light which is nice. Overall, I enjoyed this more than Founders Doom and I doubt I will ever love a BB IPA. This is about as high a rating as they will get. The appearance and aroma is what makes my rating so high.

12oz Bottle. Thanks so much, Sean! Well, thatís as odd an aroma as Iíve ever smelled in a beer. A really strange fruit mix that emerges as Hi-C, canned pears, mango, papaya, lots of papaya, guava, and some nectarines. Super fruity, but bolstered with a cherry-ish vanilla bourbon thing. Oddly enjoyable. Right up front in the palate the bourbon comes on luscious and sweet, with plenty of oaky, vanilla, rich ruddy red fruits. Iím really not sure how they managed to pack so much fruit and bourbon in here without this turning into hot, chunky booze salad. The oaky dryness of the bourbon and the grassy edge to the hops seal it up nicely in the finish. I have no idea on earth how, but this works. Itís like fruit orgasm dessert pale ale, and I usually hate bourbon-barrel aged anything hoppy.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A weird one! Smells very aggressively of peaches & cream, and the flavor adds the element of yogurt. Very sweet, noticeably lactic, and yummy if this hasnít sent you packing. Overall, strange, tasty, and a whole different ball park than Citra Pale.

Definitely the first bourbon barrel pale ale i have had. CPA is one of my favorite beers so I really wanted to try the BB version. I'm glad I tried it and I really enjoyed it but I think my 10 oz pour was plenty.
