tap - Odd Side ale room in Grand Haven. Part of a flight - decent flavor and complexity - pretty light on the alcohol though

Flight pour on tap at the brewpub (Grand Haven, MI). Pours a deep blackish hue, opaque with some darkness, frothy light brown head atop sits with decent lacing and stick around. Faint ruby but still essentially opaque. Aromas are rich and potent, firm coffee and espresso meet mellow cocoa nib, touches of earth, faint ash and caramel. Some biscuit, earth. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of girth with Hershey’s chocolate syrup, coffee and earth. Some caramel, touches of sweetness meet toffee, oatmeal and biscuit. A bit toasty, carmelized as we hit backend. A deeper middle with some nice gentle body quickly emerges with firmer chocolate, a touch of Vienetta dessert, some creaminess as we round the corner. Finish is dry, roasty, peanut shells and coffee grounds. A bit of espresso, cocoa and roast as we finish. Depth of flavors are potent, a bit firmer in body but not overdone, too thick or sweet. This beer works what it was given. The chocolate seems a little fake up front but I really work into it and the beer itself, it’s flow and depth really catch on. Nice stuff.

12 oz bottle. The pour is an extremely dark brown, pretty much black with a thin dark khaki head and no lacing hanging around. The aroma is pretty good. There is a dominating chocolate sweetness on the front end with a nice vanilla-ish transition through a wonderful roasty coffee on the back end. The body of the aroma almost carries a chocolate milk character to it. The flavor is a little more held back. There is a decent chocolateyness on the front but it comes back kind of woody, with not much of the vanilla and a more hidden, almost not there, coffee. The mouth feel is definitely a little thinner for how thing pours. The carbonation is light, but helps overall. The aftertaste is a little woody and sweet, with a lingering hint of coffee roast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black pour tan head. Chocolate powder aroma with some coffee. Vanilla and chocolate dominate with some coffee background. Moderate body light carbonation. Well done.

Black pour from 12 oz bottle in saugatuck. Massive vanilla aroma with slight nuts also. Taste is vanilla and choclate. Smooth. Creamy. Delicious. Choclate milk.

Draft at Odd Side - pours a dark brown . Big milk chocolate aromas . Good flavor mostly a lighter cocoa , only thing I didn't care for was the very thin finish . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, almost black with thick tan head. Aroma is faint chocolate and coffee with a nutty hint. Taste is rich coffee, chocolate and some dark fruits. Not as heavy as you would expect and extremely rich taste! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark brown with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is a combination of cinnamon and coffee, with hints of chocolate. Flavor is dominated by coffee and dark chocolate, as well as cinnamon. Mouth feel is unfortunately watery. A fuller body would definitely improve it, but it’s still a delicious stout.

12oz bottle courtesy of mikem409. Thanks. Pours a nearly opaque black color with a small tan head that soon recedes to a few bubbles. The aroma is medium in strength with coffee and mocha. The taste is coffee, coffee liqueur, mocha and dark chocolates. The palate is full, viscous and a bit oily; and the carbonation is soft. Finishes medium in duration and bittersweet. Overall: Decent stout, very tasty.

The nose is a heavy coffee with chocolate, maybe a touch of dark fruit but just a hint. Appearance is dark with a beige had that doesn’t last long. Taste is all coffee up front with some hints of chocolate to follow up the rear. Delicious! Palate was lacking. Quite thin for the big flavors and aroma. Easy to drink but disappointing when the rest was so good. Overall a great beer for lovers of coffee and dark chocolate. Goes great with salted caramel chocolate and would be wonderful over some ice cream!
