Bottle at home purchased at their pub in Grand Haven. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is slight malt and dark fruit. Flavor is tart and slightly sour. Some wineyness to it. Not at all a belg dub. Very much like a Flemish red or an American wild ale. Really nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a clear reddish brown hue with a bubbly beige head. Aroma of red wine and malt. You can defiantly taste the wine in this brew. Hard to place some of the other flavors. While I appreciate the creativity, this one just didnít click for me.

12 oz bottle. Pours red brown with a light tan head. Nutty redcurrant/red grape/raspberry aroma. Flavor also is rather nutty, oaky, and raisin. Nice, but maybe leans too much on the wine barrel flavors.

Bottle... Lost my offline notes for this one, but I didnít like it all that much. Seemed like there was just too much misplaced bitterness for the style. Bitter, simply for the sake of being a bitter, hopped-up dubbel? I found no real trace of the wine barrel in here either. Still, cleanly-brewed with no technical flaws. I didnít hate it. An unnecessary abundance of hops just isnít my thing. Great dubbel for hop-heads? Bottle courtesy of FlandersNed!

dubbel? aroma strongly suggests something along the lines of a flemish sour, with huge woody winey and tart notes. cherry and other dark-skinned and pitted fruit. neat brew, but definitely not a dubbel especially for its price tag. maybe it just needs to be re-branded as a sour...

Pour on tap at One Eyed Bettys, hazy dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma brought notes of bread cocoa, caramel, nuts, hints of spice, some slight oak and red grape notes. Taste is a mix of red fruit, wine, oak, vanilla, touch of vinegar into a bit of yeast, nuts, some bready notes, finishing fairly dry. Not bad, but a bit off.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 Bottle: Deep, crimson & ruby body with a light-tan head, foamy & chunky, that slowly settles down to a moderate film. Aroma is more like a Flanders red than a dubbel at all. Lots of wet wood, vinous grape skins, sour cherry, pleasant tartness, hint of lacto, a touch of alcohol, & a solid base of dark, toasted malts. Taste is not as tart or sour as the aroma might indicate. Still doesnít taste like a dubbel at all, though. Just a very woody & barrel heavy Flanders still. Dry wood, very vinous grape & plum notes, hint of sharp cherry skin, touch of raisin maybe. But very woody. Some vinous booziness. Kind of astringent, a little rough around the edges. The aroma had some promise but the taste fell a little flat for me.

Deep ruby brown pour with sixteenth inch of beige head. Deep tart berry aroma, cranberry, grape and cherry, crisp white wine-y tinge and strong oak. Soft carbonation, mouthfeel fairly thick and slightly tingly, clean finish. Taste has lots in common with red wine; red fruits, tobacco, chardonnay or champagne effervescence, tart berries, plum, peppery funk, oak. Slightly bitter, good beer/wine hybrid, better tasting and more complex when left to warm.

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Woody, sulfurous aroma that gives a sensation of light Roselare yeast. This strikes me as immediately being Oud Bruin like, with some egginess, a touch of vinegar, and some delightful deep toasted wood. However, the acidity is skin deep and the body of the beer is very dry and a bit thin. Thereís a glassy limpness to the mouthfeel that is not natural in either Dubbel or Bruin. Fun barrel and funk flavors, but a little soft in the middle.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate grapes, red wine, dark fruits, faint candi sugar, oak, and faint soap/perfume. It pours a slightly haze dark copper with a three finger khaki head that has good retention before finally fading to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is a good amount of soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with grapes, plums, light cherries, and Belgian yeast that has some faint Unibroue characteristics. The finish has light-moderate red wine, lightly tart grape/grape skins, lemon peel, spice, and faint oak. Itís medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, Iím assuming Odd Side did exactly what they set out to do. Itís a wine barrel Dubbel that shows both the characteristics of a Dubbel and the wine barrel...but itís not a style Iím crazy about.
