Poured from a 12 oz bottle dated June 10th, 2015. Aroma is full of chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and peppers with a lot of dark chocolate and cinnamon. Some light roast and hints of alcohol. Pepper note is slightly green. Some light raisin and prune notes as well. Pours dark brown to black with a small, moderately thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges and disappears. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate upfront. As the chocolate recedes caramel and some light roast notes become noticeable. A wave of cinnamon follows with some pepper notes and spice. Nutmeg and coffee are very light. Medium bitterness and a touch of alcohol spice. Some lingering spice from the peppers. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer, but for my personal tastes the coffee is too faint and the spices too strong. I do like that it’s not overly alcoholic. Also, the lingering pepper spice is well proportioned.

12oz bottle pours a black color with a bit of head. Lots of spices and chili. The chili burns, but balances well with the spices.

2015-07-03. Black body with a modest brown head. 4+ Aroma is chocolatey, notes of Tootsie Roll, Mexican chocolate and a whisper of pepper. Flavour is similar, Hershey’s and tootsie roll chocolate notes, Mexican chocolate, light spice in the finish. Average plus to medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent. On tap at Slows BBQ, Detroit.

Tap at brewery. Dark black. Lingering bit of head. Very coffee nose. Spicy touch at front of sip flows into peanut buttery body of mild spices, nuttiness.

Forward chocolate and coffee mixed together. The pepper heat starts to come in on the tongue about halfway through the glass, non-offensive tingle.

On tap at their brewing facility while their downtown pub was being refurbished. Pours dark brown with a thin head. Aroma is chocolate, cinnamon, slight coffee. Flavor is strongly chocolate and cinnamon, and slight habanero flavors. Some heat comes at the finish, but not much. This was in June of 2015. I’ve heard that other iterations of this had more heat. I hate beers with cinnamon and so my rating is somewhat low.

12 oz bottle my sister-in-law picked up for me while in Michigan. Pours black with a chocolate colored head and lacing that pretty much covers the entire glass. Aroma of peppermint, chocolate, spicy peppers, cinnamon, nutmeg, and coffee. Taste is rich Dutch chocolate, mint, and a whole lot of spiciness! Big burning peppery taste from the habaneros, cinnamon, and nutmeg with coffee rounding it out. Very nice, very pronounced, hot habanero burn on the lips, tongue and throat. Taste is an excellent balance of sweetness and spiciness! Great finish of Dutch chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, and of course habanero. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation. Odd Side Ales are killing it! Just an absolutely amazing brewery! I hope they have a long term plan because there is no reason they couldn’t be as successful as Stone, Founder’s, or Bell’s.

Bottled. Poured very close to black with a creamy toasted tan head. The aroma picked up toasted cocoa and sweet cream, accented by vanilla and spicy peppers.. really nice. The flavor found smoky black malts, cocoa, and sweet cream at the core with charred peppery notes and cinnamon laced throughout.. finished spicy and tasty, but a tad watery. Light-medium bodied and creamy across the middle.. thinned out as mentioned toward the back.. pepper and spices were very well integrated.. very good brew!

Bottle (12 oz). Thanks Tony!

Appearance: Dark brown with a small beige head and little lacing.

Aroma: Cinnamon, nutmeg, chili peppers, chocolate, light habaneros presence and vegetal notes.

Taste: Taste is hot (habaneros) and spicy (cinnamon, nutmeg) with chocolate and coffee in the background.Unpleasant vegetal presence as well.

Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Hot finish.

Overall: Unbalanced. Not enough body to handle the spices. Too hot.
