3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler shared by b3shine. Pours dark brown to black with a small beige head. The aroma has a big peppery spice, dark fruits, chocolate and cinnamon. The flavor has nice chocolate and cinnamon, peppery spice and dark fruits. This comes off a bit thin. With more body this would probably pull off the flavors better.

(draft @ Odd Side Ales - Grand Haven, MI) Dark brown pour with a thin head. Spices and lots of chocolate in the aroma. Chocolate and roasted malts at the start with a very big and spicy chili note coming up at the end. Lingering burn and really tasty.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a jet black with a sliver of head. Nose a taste are of cinnamon sticks sip slowly. A bit of coffee and a bit of vanilla on the nose very subtle way on the taste the cinnamon and nutmeg definitely steal the show. A nice time to time treat but not a regular sipper for me to much spice. Could use some cellar time I think.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Very dark brown with small creamy tan head, caramel-chocolate aroma, medium carbonation, milk chocolate taste with alcohol undertones, long finish with alcohol aftertaste. Drinking it feels like having a chocolate drink with rum inside!

Draft at hopcat. Pours black with a half inch of khaki foam. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Lovely cocoa notes on the nose. Nice lactose sweetness pairs nicely with all the chocolate. As I continue to drink I notice more of the chile notes which makes this beer even more interesting. Finishes clean. Very nice beer!

12oz bottle side by side with the bourbon variation. Even more pepper tones. Monstrous cinnamon and nutmeg tones. Juicy vegetal pepper. Really tasty, juicy Imperial Stout tones. Superior to the barrel aged version if you ask me. Right on.

4.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Outstanding whether from bottle or on tap.
Perfect balance of chocolate, cinnamon, and coffee flavors, with pepper heat in the finish and surprising body for a 6% ABV stout.
My current favorite among the many fine Michigan products I’ve tried and one of my top 5 of all time.
Notes: By the time I tried the first bottle and returned to my beer store for more, it had sold out. Bourbon barrel version is also excellent - preference is a matter of personal taste.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. Bottle in a trade with fishmich. Doing a side-by-side with the Bourbon Barrel version. Aroma is mild chili pepper, cinnamon with a nice deep chocolate body. Hints of ash.
The flavor is starts with the chocolate cake upfront followed by cinnamon and a trace of vanilla. The finish comes with a nice amount of habanero pepper and cinnamon to help keep the heat at bay. Yet as I drink the heat does build up. A really nice body for a lower gravity stout, way fuller and chewy then most at a 6 percent. Very nice.

super heavy on the cinnamon, but a great representation of mexican chocolate.
