Bomber shared by MrBunn at his casa. Pours dark rich brown-black, little lasting off-white foam, aromas of coffee and chocolate, with dark malts and perhaps a hint of cherries? Taste is rich and milky mouthfeel, chocolate and cherries, but now it makes me think there might be a small infection gearing up in there, because the cherries are a tad tart. Initial bitterness is left hanging by a lack of fullness in the late palate. Alcohol burn overly present for a 8.5 beer. Not bad, not amazing. Would like to try a different bottle to see if there is infection or not.

Bottle from mikem409 to finish my local4local bif haul. Pours coffee like black with no head, a oil like slick on top. Nose of bouron and oak. Taste adds light black coffee roast. Body seems a tad thin but the ABV lifts.

Pours pitch black with a medium mocha head...looks thick...nice lacing. Aroma has bitter bakers chocolate, light vanilla, and mild bourbon...hints of dark fruit. Flavor has dark fruits, bitter chocolate, oak, and light bourbon...very mild fruity tartness leaning toward sour...not getting much coffee. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a very slightly tart dark fruit/chocolatey bitter finish. Im thinking there is a bit too much tartness here...possible infection?

22oz, black waxed bottle, 2012 edition courtesy of mikem409. thanks, mike! pours a dusky, deep, cocoa brown that sits black in the glass and is capped by a thin, mocha head. aroma is great with notes of rich oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa powder backed by toasted barrel, toffee, coconut cake, and hints of espresso. flavor is delicious as well with dark, bitter, roast coffee, milk chocolate, malt balls, and brown sugar oatmeal backed by very subtle note of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and earth. palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with light carbonation and a dry, roasted finish. sadly, there is an off metallic note on the very back end that detracts from the experience a bit. overall, a damn nice barrel aged stout that could be great without the metallic notes.

Black-waxed deuce to oversized snifter (2012 vintage; thanks mikem409). Looks good; pitch black with beige lacing. Smells and tastes of sweet malt, oatmeal, bourbon, and vanilla with a nice, delicate balance and silky finish. Excellent beer and flavor-packed, especially for the abv.

Bottle I picked up on Black Friday at the brewery. I had it on tap, didn’t rate it, so here goes. Pours a deep but somewhat thin dark brown with very little head. Aromas are boozy with lots of dark fruit and bourbon. Flavor is more of the same, but since it has so little carbonation, it comes across as a little odd. It’s thin for the style, but still yummy.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike. The beer is dark brown with a thick, soapy, beige head that gradually dissipates, leaving random traces of lacing on the tumbler. The aroma offers buttery malt, bourbon, booze, coffee. The flavor is ok, with a lot of buttery, creamy, bourbon flavor. Coffee plays a major role as well. Not particularly well balanced. Burned roast lingers in the aftertaste. This brew doesn’t compel me to keep drinking. Decent, but not something I feel I need to have again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-09-2012

Bomber bottle and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours deep brown with a fading head and some lace. The aroma has notes of coffee, roast, pipe tobacco, tar, leather, whiskey barrel and some espresso over a layer of caramel and bready malts The taste is still heavy on the sweet malts and chocolate but some plum and raisin twangy notes appear. Add some coffee and Cavendish Pipe tobacco notes too round some of the palate. The mouth feel is thin but then again it is 1) coffee and 2) barreled so that is to be expected. Overall I enjoyed this brew, nothing earth moving but solid enough to have again.
