3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
In short: A low-key barrel aged coffee stout that keeps a low-profile in ever department. Ok. Just ok.
How: Bottle 22oz, white wax top, consumed when about one year of age, Bottle sent to me by bulldogp04, thanks a lot Dean.
The look: Black body topped by a persistent small tan head limiting lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose has a moderate barrel presence, a moderate coffee presence, roast, light vegetables notes. Far from bourbon barrel orgy. In mouth the beer feels very fluffy and an excessively lively carbonation. Taste is very yeasty, fluffy and moderately roasted, like a Belgian black ale. There are blackened malts but this is far from a very malty impy stout. Some bourbon barrel but far from a bourbon barrel orgy, not even any vanilla here. Some coffee but not much considering it is descried as a coffee stout on the label. Some acidity in the finish because of the excessive carbonation. Surprisingly low sweetness sensation for the style, can almost be described as dry. Basically this is not much of anything, surprisingly easy to drink for a bourbon barrel aged impy stout Named after the defence mechanism that prevents sleeping men from rolling out from the bed.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from the most recent batch released on 11/29/13. Pours a rich blackish color with a tan head. Aroma of huge bourbon and coffee aroma, with lots of rich dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, and peppery notes. Flavor is rich and lush, lots of dark chocolate and nice bourbon notes. Some mild sweetness and touches of bitterness from the wood. Everything is clear and well-put together. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. This is excellent.

Tastes like it would be a good beer if there wasnt an awkward infection in here. Oddly tart and off with lots of stout flavors in there but the finish is a bit rotten and odd.

Opaque dark brown beer, few tan bubbles for a head. Smooth and viscous palate. Slightly tangy dark malts with fruity coffee. Sweetish vanilla brings up the rear. Smooth finish. Nicely joined up.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow fantastic stuff, tons of cherry flavors, bourbon and dry roastyness, itís it some odd flavor that I find in single malt but it works well here, consider it lucky

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle:   Black, thin beige head, sudsy, little lacing.   Nice sweet bourbon and graham cracker on the nose.   Smells like a wonderful bourbon chocolate bar.   Sweet roast on the tongue, bourbon, vanilla, graham cracker, and chocolate.   This was rather enjoyable, moreso than I thought.   Not a big hop bomb, not acrid.   This one is sweet, bourbon, with some lovely graham cracker and vanilla notes.   Could use a bit more body, but as is its a sweeter example of a BA Stout.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes with a sweet coffee like aspect.   Sweet and less bitter than most, with a nice helping of Barrel aging.   Not big, but big enough to be entertaining.   Thanks Kevin!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber shared by MrBunn at his casa. Pours dark rich brown-black, little lasting off-white foam, aromas of coffee and chocolate, with dark malts and perhaps a hint of cherries? Taste is rich and milky mouthfeel, chocolate and cherries, but now it makes me think there might be a small infection gearing up in there, because the cherries are a tad tart. Initial bitterness is left hanging by a lack of fullness in the late palate. Alcohol burn overly present for a 8.5 beer. Not bad, not amazing. Would like to try a different bottle to see if there is infection or not.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from mikem409 to finish my local4local bif haul. Pours coffee like black with no head, a oil like slick on top. Nose of bouron and oak. Taste adds light black coffee roast. Body seems a tad thin but the ABV lifts.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours pitch black with a medium mocha head...looks thick...nice lacing. Aroma has bitter bakers chocolate, light vanilla, and mild bourbon...hints of dark fruit. Flavor has dark fruits, bitter chocolate, oak, and light bourbon...very mild fruity tartness leaning toward sour...not getting much coffee. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with a very slightly tart dark fruit/chocolatey bitter finish. Im thinking there is a bit too much tartness here...possible infection?
