22oz, black waxed bottle, 2012 edition courtesy of mikem409. thanks, mike! pours a dusky, deep, cocoa brown that sits black in the glass and is capped by a thin, mocha head. aroma is great with notes of rich oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa powder backed by toasted barrel, toffee, coconut cake, and hints of espresso. flavor is delicious as well with dark, bitter, roast coffee, milk chocolate, malt balls, and brown sugar oatmeal backed by very subtle note of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and earth. palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with light carbonation and a dry, roasted finish. sadly, there is an off metallic note on the very back end that detracts from the experience a bit. overall, a damn nice barrel aged stout that could be great without the metallic notes.

Appearance: Black with a small beige head and little lacing.
Aroma: Rich bourbon and coffee features along caramel, vanilla and roasted malts.
Taste: Medium sweetness with again a burst of bourbon and coffee along vanilla, rich caramel, a bit of alcohol and mild coffee bitterness.
Palate: Medium to full body. Moderate to medium carbonation. A bit oily. Rich chocolatey and caramel finish.
Overall: Rich and decadent barrel-aged RIS, but with less than 10% abv it’s not a monster and it’s quite well balanced. Tasty and enjoyable.

Pours a good black with a beige rim that leave some lacing. Nose is of baker’s chocolatw, cocoa powder and vanilla. Taste is or chocolate, both dark and milk, not really bourbon-forward or boozy even. It reminded me a lot of Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout. Body was medium and carbonation moderate. OK but not really my thing.

Bottle. Deep black brown pour with thin off white head. Aroma is really nice, caramel, coffee, really nice salt caramel aroma. Taste is coffee, not too bitter, really nice caramel, nice chocolate flavor. Palate is med bodied with good carbonation.

2014 bottle. Thanks tony. Smells like Hershey syrup. Tastes like Hershey syrup. Just a touch of coffee and a touch of bourbon. Perfectly mixed together. Really fucking tasty.

Bottle shared with Brian at home. Snifters. Pours a deep brown, nearly black with a small oily head. Aroma is dark chocolate, peanuts, peanut butter (slight), dark currants, some coffee. Taste is fairly the same with dark chocolate, coffee, slight peanut, and burnt caramel. Little lighter body than I was expecting. Well carbed. Finish is coffee bitterness and caramel. Solid.

Bottle from trade. Pours pitch black with a small creamy brown head. Aroma of earthy coffee and sweet chocolate, some roasty, light vanilla an a hint of bourbon. Flavor is big chocolate and coffee, super smooth like a creamy milkshake. Smooth and creamy body, rich, with only a twinge of bourbon heat going down. Very impressed with this one. Mmmm.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/10/2014. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, fudge, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, brown sugar, and oaky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, caramel, fudge, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, brown sugar, and oaky earthiness. Light amount of roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, caramel, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, bourbon, and brown sugar on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy, and slightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged imperial coffee stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

2014 bottle brought back by a friend. Black pour with a medium light brown head. Nose consists of malt, coffee, slight bourbon and roast. Malty flavor with a nice vanilla character before coffee and bourbon take over. Chocolate and roasted malt finish. Tasty.
