3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz, black waxed bottle, 2012 edition courtesy of mikem409. thanks, mike! pours a dusky, deep, cocoa brown that sits black in the glass and is capped by a thin, mocha head. aroma is great with notes of rich oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa powder backed by toasted barrel, toffee, coconut cake, and hints of espresso. flavor is delicious as well with dark, bitter, roast coffee, milk chocolate, malt balls, and brown sugar oatmeal backed by very subtle note of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and earth. palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with light carbonation and a dry, roasted finish. sadly, there is an off metallic note on the very back end that detracts from the experience a bit. overall, a damn nice barrel aged stout that could be great without the metallic notes.

Black/brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is coffee, a touch of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and roasted malt. Flavor is chocolate malt, coffee, bourbon, and a touch of sour at the end (subtle). Medium bodied and a touch foamy as well. still a good beer

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Via trade. Nose is a chocolate and light booze bomb. A moderate green coffee aroma. Very nice. Taste is milk chocolate with a bit of booze and boost. Coffee is a bit subdued in the flavor. A very chocolate forward beer which I like. The coffee and booze seem in check which is nice. I feel the base beer lacks the roastiness of a stout. Really good as a robust porter though. Still a very drinkable and delish beer.

Pours thick dark murky brownish black with a bright caramel cinnamon head. Aroma and flavor bring big chocolate creamy candy bars so pleasant on the palate I could drink it all night. Well done!

Served in a snifter at fridge temp. Dark brown pour, minimal light brown head. Aroma is very chocolatey with some pleasantly sweet coffee. Taste is very similar. Delicious, really. Not much bourbon but exceptionally well balanced. I’m impressed.

Sampled from a bottle, the label on the bottle I have is completely different than what is shown on RateBeer,
this stout had a dark head that was about a fingers worth, the bubbles lightened up to dark tan and tan as the glass sat, the beer was very dark brown-black (no ruby or dark red at the bottom of the glass), the cover receded to a thin cover with a few see through areas and ring, it left some lacing that rolled off as I drank,
the nose had roasted malt, coffee, bourbon liquor, vanilla, some dark chocolate, faint dark fruit, dark brown sugar and bourbon liquor sweetness, a bit of molasses in the background, the nose was a nice mix of dark malt notes with bourbon, vanilla and coffee, the sweetness was big on the nose but it wasn’t over bearing,
the flavors were roasted malt and coffee with some bourbon and a little vanilla,
the finish had roasted malt and coffee bitterness with a bit of bourbon alcohol that dried the tongue slightly, there a little sweetness following afterwards,
this drink was on the light side of medium with some bubbly creamy feel on the palate, it had average carbonation,
this was a nice drink, the nose had a lot of sweetness while the flavor had little sweetness, the mouth feel was lighter than I expected for a 8.5% alc. beer, tasty and easy to drink, also, I see this as sort of a sleeper drink.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thick motor oil black pour with a half inch deep brown head that disappeared quickly. Deep dark chocolate scent with smooth rich bourbon. Creamy but thin mouthfeel, slightly fizzy carbonation, brief palate numbing finish. Robust flavors of rich chocolate, dark fruits and corn-y yet smooth bourbon flavor, vanilla and molasses, some smokey campfire in there too. Very good BBA stout, no coffee essence though, lack of complexity is notable but by no means a complaint.

Had a glass on tap at the Wurst Bar in Ypsi. A bit sweet and boozy for my palate. Great chocolate and Coffee flavors.
