3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz, black waxed bottle, 2012 edition courtesy of mikem409. thanks, mike! pours a dusky, deep, cocoa brown that sits black in the glass and is capped by a thin, mocha head. aroma is great with notes of rich oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa powder backed by toasted barrel, toffee, coconut cake, and hints of espresso. flavor is delicious as well with dark, bitter, roast coffee, milk chocolate, malt balls, and brown sugar oatmeal backed by very subtle note of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and earth. palate is on the heavier side of medium bodied with light carbonation and a dry, roasted finish. sadly, there is an off metallic note on the very back end that detracts from the experience a bit. overall, a damn nice barrel aged stout that could be great without the metallic notes.

A very well done coffee stout, strong and bitter. Almost too bitter honestly, but well done all the same.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
’14 bottle from flandersned-thanks, Steve. Inky black, full bodied but not oily. Nose of dark roast malts, coffee, cocoa, light bourbon. Starts dry but with a sweet middle and lingering sweetness with bitter balance. Really nice interplay here between the bitter and sweet. Flavors follow nose, but mostly a nice toasted marshmellow quality with some vanilla. Liked this a lot more than I expected after the let down of Hipster Brunch.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler shared by b3shine. Pours a clear dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have big chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, has a sweetness that works well with the coffee and barrel, I am a fan.

32oz growler, thanks to b3shine for sharing. Black color. Thin ring of khaki head. Dots of lace. Nice big oatmeal, touch of dark fruit, espresso-type coffee. Bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Nice mild warmth. Love the big coffee here, and a good bit of bourbon oak comes through too. Mild toasted oak, mild vanilla, very mild spiciness to it. Great chewiness to it, silky kind of creamy texture. Awesome coffee imperial oatmeal stout. Touch of maple. Bit more dark fruit character to it, but still awesome.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (12 oz). From Tony, thanks!
Appearance: Black with a small beige head and little lacing.
Aroma: Rich bourbon and coffee features along caramel, vanilla and roasted malts.
Taste: Medium sweetness with again a burst of bourbon and coffee along vanilla, rich caramel, a bit of alcohol and mild coffee bitterness.
Palate: Medium to full body. Moderate to medium carbonation. A bit oily. Rich chocolatey and caramel finish.
Overall: Rich and decadent barrel-aged RIS, but with less than 10% abv it’s not a monster and it’s quite well balanced. Tasty and enjoyable.
