UPDATED: DEC 22, 2014 Good for thestyle but not amazing. Solid stout but not a show stopper. Very drinkable.

Pours a black color with no head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and roast. Flavor is heavy on the roast, with some coffee and sweet chocolate. Has a thin body, especially for an imperial stout. Overall quite good though.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan ring of a head. Great creamy mocha cocoa aroma with lots of toffee, molasses, raisin, vanilla coffee. Hard to place, but great. Flavor is creamy vanilla and cocoa, raisin and roasty coffee, anise. Cleaner palate than most of this style. Different from other imperial stouts, certainly, and very tasty.

Pours a dark thick black color with a short dark brown head that settles quickly. A smokey woody coffee nose with a dark fruit background. A roasty coffee flavor with a milk chocolate note in the end. Somehow has a general thinner mouthfeel. Not what I was expecting. It does have a particular off taste that is quite piercing. Leaves a dry mouthfeel. It does get better as it warms. Maybe with some age these sharp tones will start to fade. As it warms the vanilla comes out a bit more which does mask the harsher tones somewhat.

Thick black pour with minimal head. Rich chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malts in both aroma and taste, thick and heavy. Decent but fails to stand out.

Growler: Thanks, Tim. Deep, moderately oily black pour with no head formation, just a very, very thin tan ring around the edges. Roasty aroma, notes of mild smoke, char, faint anise, molasses, scored coffee, and light cacao nibs bordering on bittersweet. More sweetness in the flavor, but still a hefty roasted malt & mildly smoky background. Light brown sugar, coffee, faint char, a little woodsiness, & some hints of anise peaking towards the latter half. Finish gets roastier with bitter chocolate nibs as it warms up. A pretty nice imperial stout.

On tap: The aroma consists of dark chocolate, anise, light dark fruit/plum, and coffee. It’s a dark brown with a small tan head that quickly fades to a thin film. There is some spotty webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate (milk and dark). There is some light dark fruit/plum notes in the middle. The finish has light anise, coffee, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Tap at Slows Bar-B-Q. Pitch black pour with a small creamy head that fades to a ring. Aroma is a mix of anise and dark roasted coffee. Tastes like anise and bitter coffee with a hint of dark chocolate. Thick, creamy body. Too much anise for me.

From notes. On tap at Odd Side on March 21. The pour is jet black with a thin ring of khaki head and decent lacing down the glass. The aroma carries a good bitter note with a nice roasty chocolate on the back end. The flavor is much of the same. It’s a little more dominated on the bitter side. The light roast and chocolate move in half way through, and carry on. The mouth feel is solidly thick and creamy, with a good carbonation and a nice, lingeringly bitter aftertaste.

On tap. Aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and citrus hops. Black hue with a small off-white head. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Overall a pretty average Impy.
