Care for some hops with your hops? Before we ferment our 5 Barrel Pale Ale, we strain it through a bed of 'em. Then while it ages, we add even more. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively finish. We like hops.

As we go about refining the recipe for each new beer, we brew up just five barrels at a time. That's exactly how we arrived at this pale ale -- so that's what we named it. Plus, it sounded a lot nicer than Giant Vat Pale Ale.

Cloudy copper in color with a thick light tan head. Aroma of citrus and some spruce. Some carmel maltiness in the flavor followed with light citrus hops. Aftertaste of light bitter pine. Crisp mouthfeel with some carbonation.

Bottle pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is somewhat hoppy, citrus/orange with green tea and floral notes. Flavor is a herbal, leafy English pale ale flavor with a touch of sweet malt. Medium bodied and fairly crisp. Decent, but not terribly memorable.

Bottled. Smell hints at tropical fruits but really mainly straight up and down pale and hops on the nose. First thing you get is a pleasing dryness - comes on like a rye beer. Not a great deal more to it than that. You get some fresh grapefruit at the back but more of a hint than full on flavour. Nice but not a keeper.

Have had a few various times. This rating is from a bottle, poured into a glass. Deep golden pour. Thick, foamy white head. Aroma of citrus and grass. Taste is floral, very lightly bitter, grassy, some orange marmalade. Finish is sweet, lightly dry. Pretty refreshing and enjoyable. Solid, but nothing special.

Bottle. Pours pale to deep gold. Pine and citrus aroma. Slightly peppery. Very little malt flavor. Resiny hops. Bit of spice. Light body, thin mouthfeel. Watery.

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Hazy orange body with a thick off-white head. Thick lacing marks. Aroma of pot puri, shower gel and orange peel. Flavour of grapefruit, Earl Grey tea and sweet malts. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Very tasty - I’d love to try this on cask.

Tap @ Pinnacle Sports Bar: Pleasant creamy feel with a great hop but not too overpowering presence. This is one of those beers you could drink several of during a game - like I did while USC lost again.
